How many of you can get off the floor...

without using your hands/a hand?

Because I can't. You're supposed to be able to.

Ideally I'd like answers not from the super fit gym goers/marathon runners but ordinarily fairly active late 40's? Grin

What exercises would help does anyone know? (I'm not overweight), was very ill in bed for 5 months 4 years ago and just haven't been the same since and it's really depressing me.

Thanks Autumn! -I wouldn't have called that springing - I was imagining some kind of complex gazelle like leap!! [blush). That video is how i do it.

BillieEilish · 09/10/2019 18:20

No, that's not springing up, the springing up one IS like a gazelle leaping up from the floor instead of just standing, a sort of big jump up, feet leaving the ground.

Bloody impossible, but one PP can do it. But she said she was a fitness freak Grin

I can do it easily and only ever do yoga (I’m a yoga teacher) so that would be my recommended activity to help.

I would do it by sitting crossed legged, pressing the outside edges of my feet into the floor and coming to standing.

Yes I can. I’m not particularly fit and 44.

FadingStar · 09/10/2019 18:33

I can just about do it. My mum is 81 and can do it quicker than me. 😂

FadingStar · 09/10/2019 18:36

The cross legged thing without going on your knees I mean. My mum flies up with her legs still crossed like what the hell? She's in her eighties!!

AutumnRose1 · 09/10/2019 18:37

Oh sorry
So springing up is just doing it faster than that.

My puzzle is, I can spring up from a sort of sit up position
But cross legged thing is like,...what?!

I also can't do full lotus

My parents used to be all "but why can't you do it" when I was a teen. They were in their 50s. I still wonder if there's a genetic thing. Like I can't cross my eyes.

user1498572889 · 09/10/2019 18:41

I am mid fifties. I can do it but I make a lot of noise while doing so 😁 sometimes I have to when I have a grandchild in each arm.

sparklefarts · 09/10/2019 19:07

Tried the cross legged. I went down with a slight bang and absolutely no amount of rocking was getting my fat arse up.

sparklefarts · 09/10/2019 19:08

I can go on my knee and get up tho.

TilandPop · 09/10/2019 19:09

I can do it, with great difficulty

StandardPoodle · 09/10/2019 19:32

I managed it but it was almost rear-end first, like a camel.
(Early sixties and arthritic).

missclimpson · 09/10/2019 19:34

I can. And I can still do the splits. Will be 70 next month. 😊

AutumnRose1 · 09/10/2019 20:56

missclimpson I hope to be like you.

I can do the splits but the crossing of feet has defeated me!

I'm tempted to practise but how?! (I know there are videos).

I can get near but then it's like you have to balance on the side of your feet?!

catsmother · 09/10/2019 21:28

Yep. 54 here, and I can also easily put my foot on top of my head, if I'm sitting down that is .... if I could do it standing up that'd really be something!

Mind you, I am increasingly finding I get rather dizzy if I stand up too quickly after bending down Hmm

catsmother · 09/10/2019 21:30

Oh, and not very fit unfortunately, used to be a bit of a gym bunny 20 years ago though

TheHumanSatsuma · 09/10/2019 21:31

I have to turn into my front, hands and knees and pull myself up on the furniture!

Rotanicani · 09/10/2019 22:09

I can do it if I uncross my feet and put them side by side, I sit easily but every time I come up I’m forced to uncross. I can stand easily if they uncross and both feet can go flat

Rotanicani · 09/10/2019 22:13

My issue is not the strength but if my legs cross my hips hurt, if I uncross them as I raise up it’s fine. No lack of balance, does anyone else find it causes a hip twinge in that position to bear the weight??

fedup21 · 09/10/2019 22:20

Standing up from lying down without using hands?

Celebelly · 09/10/2019 22:23

I don't use my hands but sort of push from sitting onto knees and then kind of bounce up. It's hard to describe! I'm definitely not as agile post pregnancy and c-section though.
