Can anyone with payroll/finance department knowledge help?

I am due some compensation from my council due to a grave mistake they made, causing multiple harms to me and my family.

According to the person I spoke to the payment was actioned yesterday afternoon, yet there is no sign of it.

I've called my bank and have been told the processing time is 2-4 hours (although it often takes no where near that) but they can't see any pending payments.

I've been told to call it it's not in by close of business today.

My question is surely it doesn't take nearly 24 hours for a payment to process?
If I send money it's done instantly.

I've been through the mill with the council recently. I'm exhausted and just want this to come to an end, yet I'm still arguing my corner and being fobbed off at every given chance.

Does anyone have any advice?

Depends on the method. Faster Payments take a couple of hours max. Chaps a little slower. Bacs is about 48 hours.

Thank you.

Seems he's trying to fob me off a bit then. I'll chase up.

Also depends if they did it as an immediate transaction or it's waiting in a batch of payments to be done at the same time - eg it's normal to do a bacs run once a week on a specific day.

Thanks @Plexie

What I can't understand is that I've been told it was sent yesterday and should be in today.

If it was BACS I shouldn't have been told that, because from my knowledge in can take 3 days.

Faster Payment would've been done immediately

CHAPs again would be same working day if before 2pm or next working day after.

Sick of being mucked about.
