Holiday ideas

So - at the last minute we have the 18-28 October off - 2 adults, 1 9 year old child. We want to go away (we didn't do a summer one) and we didn't expect to get the combined time off (police officer with unpredictable protection assignments and city so not v flexible).

Budget up to 8k - for that it would need to be all inclusive pretty much and obv flights included.

I'd set my preference on Jordan but flights are difficult on those dates and dh has read the home office dire warnings and getting cold feet.

Ideas? We don't mind hot/cold - there has to be something to do (water sports or things to see) - flight no more than 10 - 12 hours and we don't use kids clubs. Not having much joy on the internet and waiting for anyone to call me back so turning to Mn for wisdom!

Bumping for you but would hope for £8k you could get something fab!

Aruba? outside the hurricane belt so weather is good & plenty of water sports & activities to do. Wouldn't bother with all inclusive as there are lots of good eating options & everything is very accessible.

Costa Rica? Might be a bit far but loads to do, beautiful wildlife and Tui fly there direct. Not sure about the weather at this time of year.

Cyprus will still have good weather, the hotels are excellent quality and the Atlantica group have some lovely ones with excellent all-inclusive.
Plenty to see and do also.

maddiemookins16mum · 08/10/2019 09:02

Oh, and you can do short breaks from Cyprus to Jordan 😊

madasamarchhare · 08/10/2019 09:07

Mexico. Always fab. Beautiful hotels and so many places to visit and activities to do. You’d get a lovely hotel on that budget

Howmanysleepsnow · 08/10/2019 09:12

Cyprus or Gambia would be my picks (though not sure re immunisation times for Gambia)

BettyPitts · 08/10/2019 09:16

Mexico, Riviera Maya.

Not Cyprus, end of October weather can be really rainy and it's dark really early and then chilly.

maddiemookins16mum · 08/10/2019 09:31

It’s still mid to high 20’s in Cyprus now. I repped there for three years and it’s rare for it to be bad weather in October. Agreed it dark by 6pm but the weather is much better than other parts of the Med in mid/late October.

BarbaraofSeville · 08/10/2019 09:35

Problem is that you're competing against everyone who lost a half term holiday with Thomas Cook so prices are likely to be high and availability low, especially as half term.

One option would be to put your requirements into the deals section of Jet2holidays and see what comes up

With that budget you should be able to get a good 5* AI hotel in the Canaries or Cyprus, but they only do Europe so you might just a try a similar search with another provider who goes to Mexico etc.

Or what about Iceland? Any last minute packages available or DIY?

Nubbin · 08/10/2019 18:45

Thank you - Iceland shockingly expensive! And the advisors suggested we'd be better in December and thinking about lapland/Finland.

Mexico I hadn't looked at - nor Jordan from Cyprus.

Am getting pretty tempted by Mauritius although still daunted by the flight.

@maddiemookins16mum We lived in Cyprus for nearly 20 years. It's beautiful, but think late October is a bit unsettled. Greece will be even wetter.

Most of the med is to be fair.
