For most of the protesters, they are committed to the cause. For others it is a jolly day out and they turn up to all the alternative events. All the yoga, weddings, man fake crying holding a photo of his kids, the trippy dancing is just a distraction from the cause and causes people to
at it all.
I work in Westminster and walked through one of their little camps. They were all polite, well mannered, organised. I didn't see any attention seeking dancers etc, just concerned people. They were apologising to people if they were inconveniencing anybody.
They have drawn attention to the cause. However they are polarising - they either turn you on to the issue, or turn you off.
Do they protest outside the Chinese, American and Indian embassies. If not, why not? It is not just our government who needs to take swift action.
We are a massively consumerist society. I can't see it changing. People might be buying reusable coffee cups but they are also buying disposable fashion (all those outfit of the day on Instagram is not helping), buying the Halloween tat, the beauty advent calendars with excess packaging full of more stuff that nobody needs.
