I am just so sick myself

So since having my ds I have started to grind my teeth. The left side is worse and it makes my gland really swell up.
So, I went to the dentist. He made me a night guard. I still wear my retainer from my brace (my orthodontist told me I would have to wear it for life- he made me 5, 15 odd years ago) I went back as the night guard felt too heavy on my teeth and I kept waking up from the dull ache.
He told me I had to get private treatment from an endodontist for a root canal. Great, ok. So I find an endodontist who said I didn't need one and redid the filling. I told him I wear a retainer and I try to wear a night guard on the lower jaw but it feels too heavy.
He laughed when I said I wear my retainer, left the room and came back with his colleague and they both had a good laugh about me still wearing my retainer. I was a bit wtf? But hey, my mouth was open and couldn't respond.
Anyway. A couple of weeks after that the pain went- yay!
I then return back to my job (seasonal) and you guessed it- three weeks in and I'm grinding again and in sever pain.
I went back to the dentist as the endodontist was humiliating and he said that now I am a private patient I had to go back to them (wtf it was an emergency appointment. I didn't give them the rights to my mouth for the rest of my life) and then referred me to hospital with a two week wait. With this intense pain. Well done if you've kept up so far, you're doing better than me.
Roll on last week, my ds catches a virus which obviously means I will get it too.
I can talk and my gland where the bad teeth are is the size of a gold ball. From my ear to my gland it is alll swollen and red (although my husband says I don't look any different- even though clearly, I look like the elephant man.)
What is worse is that I've had a high temp and then get freezing very quickly. When I get cold my teeth chatter AND THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO TO GET WARM QUICKLY.
So, for those of you who have read this far, thank you so much. I'm looking for advice/experiences/sympathy/any of the above.
For those of you who couldn't be bothered to read all this (and I don't blame you), here's a quick recap:
Had a baby
Tooth grinding/swollen gland
Dentist said I need a root canal and private treatment
Endodontist redid filling as root canal not needed
Stupid endodontist so I won't go back
Back to dentist/hospital referral
Catch virus/ look like the elephant man

Thanks all

Have you seen your GP? It sounds like you have an infection and might need antibiotics have you checked your temperature?

Jesse70 · 07/10/2019 19:01

That sounds pretty bad!
Mouth pain sucks it effects everything I get terrible ulcers when run down and I just find it depressing especially since food is one of my favourite things lol

All I can suggest is go with a better dental practice one that won't refer you anywhere else and is all down in-house

I thought infection also but threw me with the freezing cold part

anothersecond · 07/10/2019 19:03

@Goawayquickly thank you, I should have mentioned the dentist gave me antibiotics when he told me I needed private treatment. Gland was still swollen the whole time and the tooth pain didn't go.

If you have a fever your temperature will be high, but you will be freezing. Try taking 2 paracetemol and see if you feel less shivery. But ultimately I'd say you have an infection and need to get to the GP.

anothersecond · 07/10/2019 19:05

@Jesse70 I love food too but the only good bit to have come from this is that I have lost 10 pounds in 5 days through not eating.

I thought any antibiotics would have cleared up the infection but I still had a swollen gland? Anyway, will pop to the docs tomorrow.

I’m not clear on the timeline, the freezing cold bit makes me think you should check your temperature, feeling freezing can mean it’s very high. I’ve never felt so cold as when I had flu, like hospital needed flu. You may need stronger antibiotics.

anothersecond · 07/10/2019 19:08

@Mitebiteatnite I've had to stop taking paracetamol/ibuprofen as have reached the safe limit to take and tbh, it didn't really help.
Fever lasted 2 days (awful) and last night I had hot sweats and cold periods but nothing as bad as the fever (still teeth chattering though Envy

@Goawayquickly sorry, the tooth grinding/ swollen gland has been months

The virus started on Friday. Hot and cold Friday through Sunday eve with hot sweats and cold moments but not as bad as the fever. Gland the size of a golf ball.

I really appreciate everyone's help and advice thank you

I had botox (private) it is offered on the NHS for grinding teeth. It works but need to go bk every 6 months as it wears off.
Sounds like you have an infection ring 111 and get in with an NHS dentist. If no luck see a doctor tomorrow morning. See a consultant at the hospital for teeth grinding. Doesnt sound like the dentist you are with is good, change dentist.

anothersecond · 07/10/2019 21:59

Thanks @Hennysmommy the thing is my dentist is lovely although very reluctant to ever do anything.

Still in pain so counting down the hours until I can ring the docs.

Trying hard not to self diagnose on the internet, too. Hopefully they will be able to give me some antibiotics!!
