UK Half Term Short Break - any ideas?

Hi - we've left it a bit late, but are looking to go away for 2-3 nights during half term.

Does anyone have any suggestions of great places to stay (self-catering or hotel, but not Center Parcs) within a couple of hours of London?

Trying to think of somewhere with something to do in case of bad weather and struggling!

Thanks

What age? The national space centre in Leicester is really good, there's another museum next door to it, plus there's the bosworth battlefield museum. The main city museum (free) is also good. If coming by train there's a premier inn by the station with lots of restaurants nearby, by car it's better to book somewhere with parking

Oops forgot that bit - DCs are 10 and 7.
Thanks for the suggestion. Will take a look. DS loves space, so that could work.

Is it child centric? My children are a little older, but for a break of that size, we'd do a city break, so maybe Bath, Oxford, Stratford, Cambridge, Winchester, etc. Each will have something that appeals, surely?
