Has anyone else been to see it yet?

What a film. Not at all what I expected and I didn't expect to get so emotionally involved in it. Surely he's a shoo in for the Oscar?

I saw it yesterday and was ready for a gore fest. And nothing😐 however, really well done film. The little plot twist niggled at me but I'm getting over it after reading some stuff online. JP was brilliant. He had the walk/stance of The Joker down PERFECT. And that laugh choke...incredible.

@EmmiJay did you have your eyes closed? There was definitely gore!

We have a spoiler thread running in the film section if anyone wants to discuss in-depth.

I think it’s a phenomenal film. I’m a little baffed by the furore around the film. It’s nowhere near as violent or concerning as many other films released. Due to the subject matter it is very hard to watch at times (there was one scene with no violence or anything which I had to watch through my jumper, it physically hurt to watch it).

JP was incredible as always. I don’t think this is anywhere near his best performance (The Master and You Were Never Really Here were better, and maybe even Her) but may win him the Oscar anyway. So far I’d say he deserves it but haven’t seen much yet this year. Sadly I think the concerns surrounding the film in the US may count against him.

There’s a lot of angst from fans of batman talking about how the joker shouldn’t have a backstory. Personally I think it was amazingly well done, and even if the character never confirms his backstory, he obviously has one.

Cheers @SinkGirl, definitely keen to join in on that!

I’m going to see it tomorrow. Heard lots of good stuff about it.

I have never seen a DC film before but hubby wanted to to so I begrudgingly went along but wow... what an incredible film and performance!

EmmiJay · 10/10/2019 17:32

@FrazzelRock Confused that was not gore. It was shocking but not gorey. I'm used to Evil Dead/Hills Have Eyes type of stuff so...

Hope no-one thinks this is a spoiler but just in case

SPOILER!!!!!!!

As I was saying Grin I kept seeing shades of Michael Jackson in his performance especially when he was dancing down the steps! Amazing film! Powerful and heartbreaking

I took my 14 year old sister to see it last weekend as she's the only other Batman fan in the family so I couldn't convince anyone else...

I was sceptical as I loved the Nicholson and Ledger interpretation but really couldn't take to Leto's so was worried it was going to be another wanky performance. We both came out saying WOW, Phoenix played the part amazingly showing the vulnerable human side of the Joker rather than the cocky madman. Some parts actually made me tear up and I loved the stair scene 😁

As a Batman fan the timeline was a bit skewed but it's never really been consistent and you really don't need to have seen or read anything beforehand as it's intended as a standalone.

Neither of us thought it was gory in the slightest, bit of blood and some sound effects but not gore and definitely not gratuitous!

SquintEastwood · 12/10/2019 21:31

I say that as someone who can't stomach horror movies btw so I'm not numb to gore or anything!

Finally saw it today - amazing film, JP was outstanding. I think the violence is not anywhere near as much as it's being hyped up to be - there was one very graphic scene, but it wasn't a surprise and a couple of smaller incidents.
