Two girls, 5 and 2.

They are good girls generally. But I’m absolutely sick to the back teeth of being completely ignored when I speak to them!!

Not so much the two year old. Obviously shes just doing her little toddler thing. But the five year old omg.

“What do you want for breakfast?” Ignored.

“Can you please pick those toys up?” Ignored.

It’s not her hearing btw. We had it checked. Also it’s completely selective. If I asked her “do you want a biscuit” she will hear that.

Driving. Me. Mental. She does nothing. I mean I’m not talking hard labour or even chores I just wanted her to put her game away when we’d finished playing it 😬😬

I think the children probably understand that it is a game

I wouldn’t just assume that.

(Even you say think and probably).

Or to put in another way, you build something up so you have to 0lay the 'game' to get them to do what you want them to. One reason why people get worn down by it all.

Just be clear and consistent. Sometimes things are harder in the short term to make sure things are easier in the long term.

No, don't agree. They understand. They play.
However, I am the mother who refused to allow my child to join in 'Who stole the cookie from the cookie-jar?" because that did, blatantly, encourage theft.

And they realise how much you love playing the game, so want to do it more (instead of just eating). And then they try it with others, because they think the game is the thing to do and not just a game. Others may not like the game (or the fact that they won’t eat without extra fuss) and they are labelled naughty.
