Gas or electric cooker?

My cooker has broke and I need to buy a new one. I've always used electric but wondering weather to switch to gas as apparently it's cheaper to run.

Can I ask which type you prefer?

Gas hob and electric oven is the winning combo for me. However, do you have the 'plumbing' for gas already?

BillywigSting · 07/10/2019 07:44

Gas hob every time electric hobs are the devils work.

Electric ovens are OK but produce a drier heat to gas ovens, so good for roasting, not great for baking.

I have gas for both

I agree with gas hob and electric oven.

Third vote for gas hob with electric oven. I had an electric hob many moons ago - NEVER again. They take an age to heat up and you can't control the heat as well as gas. I also found it ridiculously expensive to run

massistar · 07/10/2019 07:54

I'm going to go against the grain and say induction hob. I was a bit sceptical initially but I love mine now. Easily controllable heat and it's worth it purely as it takes 20 seconds to clean it after you've used it.

massistar · 07/10/2019 07:55

Mine has a power boost setting that lets you boil water on the hob in less time than it takes to boil a kettle. They're not like the older electric hobs at all!

Yep, another one for induction hob here. Its the benefits of electric (easy to clean) and the benefits of gas (quick to heat/cool so better control of temperature than electric)
Only downside is it doesn't work with all pans but so far we haven't struggled to find ones we can use.

No idea about the oven, I didn't even realise the fuel made any difference to the oven.

Electric oven, induction hob. I had to get new pans for the hob, fortunately Home Sense had some really good ones at very reasonable prices. (Think Judge at about 1/5 of what you would pay elsewhere.)

BarbaraofSeville · 07/10/2019 09:15

Another vote for induction. It's the future. Plus a hell of a lot easier to clean, which is important.

BarbaraofSeville · 07/10/2019 09:17

Many pans are induction compatible so you wouldn't necessarily need new pans.

Our existing tefal saucepan set was fine, we just needed to get new frying pans, which came from Ikea and didn't cost very much. I just got the cheapest induction suitable ones.

Gas for everything. I had an awesome all gas range which I stupidly included in a house sale and now have a bloody awful gas hob electric ovens range and the ovens are truly dreadful. I get it serviced annually and wish it would break so I can replace it. GAS
