Bloody weevils

Bought a bag of plain flour in Lidl last week and cooked two delicious lemon cakes. I filled my glass flour jar with most of the remaining flour and put the rest, tightly secured, in a drawer in the cupboard.

Today looking for something in one of the drawers I found bloody weevils. I went through the drawers disinfecting them all and came to the one with the flour in. Opened the bag and it was crawling with the little buggars.

So todays lesson.....if it doesn't fit in the flour jar then throw the rest away. I have thoroughly checked the flour jar and there are none in there.

Disgusting little blighters!!!

Burn the kitchen down, OP. Only way forward from here...

They would have been in the flour when you bought it. I always look very closely at flour before I use it.

I also do not buy stuff from Lidl if I can get it elsewhere, or I go without.

Nuke it from space, it's the only way to be sure.

I had exactly the same issue today. I put a ready made bread mix in the creak cupboard. It was alive so they are all in the bin and the cupboard has been bleached. Gross.

Seriously... if you sieve them out and cook with it no one notices.

All flour comes with weevil eggs in it. If you left it long enough, they would hatch in the glass jar too. You must have had some in the drawers that found their way into your flour bag. To prevent it, place your bag of flour in a plastic bag in the freezer for 24 hours as it kills the eggs.
