Anyone know anything about walking boots?

I need to buy a pair.

Wouldn't have a clue where to start.

They need to be waterproof, that's all I know.

I assume you get what you pay for, but I don't want to get the most expensive pair as I'll probably wear them a maximum of a couple of times per year. But obviously when I am wearing them I want them to do the job.

Thoughts? I'm clueless.

Whatever you do buy, make sure you wear them in well. Smile

I have the same hi-tec transcender walking boots since I was 15. I am now 36 and wear them weekly.

Try a web chat forum like Caminodesantiago.me.

They have sub forums for gear including footwear. Some great advice there.

But I agree with others, buy what suits your feet/gait etc. and BREAK THEM IN before going on a long trek.

I use Merrells and they are like a glove on me, but they don't suit everyone either.

Love my Scarpa, second pair now. Wear thick hiking socks when trying on!

Whilst not a substitute for trying on, if you know your foot shape then people might be able to recommend brands that are more likely to be suitable.

Having said that, when I was looking last year, I found sizing really inconsistent even between different models of the same brand and a lot of places didn't carry half sizes even if they were made in half sizes.

My husband's Meindls lasted for years and years, did the coast to coast and lots of other long distance walks. When the sole came away from one boot, it happened at our door, perfectly behaved until the end! What a buy they were. I've planted flowers in them now Grin
