Is this normal now?

Went to the docs on Wednesday as had some lumps. One very obvious, which I assumed was just a cyst (had before, or a fibromadenoma possibly). Another which was more a thickening below my underarm. Doctor referred me (she could feel the really obvious one, but not really the other she said) I've actually had that one a good while.

I've had my appointment through today for the 14th. There's the appointment letter (1st class) and also a leaflet saying I'll possibly get a mammogram, scanned, and a biopsy. I could be there between 2-4 hours.

This isn't what happened last time (a couple of years ago now) and I had to wait over a month to even see the consultant then. I can't even remember now how many appointments I've been for before to be honest, but I know they weren't so quick.

I'm quite anxious now as this seems pretty quick and very thorough for appointment.

Is this normal now??

That’s certainly how the breast clinic works in my area, one stop shop and results at the end unless you’re the last two or three slots, and then they bri you back the next day.perhaps other areas are adopting this model too, it makes for a long appointment, but you’re nit going backwards and forwards getting this thing and that thing done.

MissSmiley · 05/10/2019 17:00

My GP refers to the breast clinic with two weeks, I thought that was standard if there's a risk of cancer

MrsPear · 05/10/2019 17:09

Yep it’s standard and a good thing too - most of the time it is nothing but in case you are one of the few unlucky ones it’s best it’s picked up quickly. Good luck op

Thanks all. That's really put my mind at rest, and it is a good thing, I agree.

Yes, mine was two years ago and I was told my appointment (2-4 hours also) would be within two weeks. I received a letter within two days, appointment was within five days. Good luck, mine was a cyst.
