Why do you want to work here?

I’ve applied for a job in the council (internal post as I currently work term time in a school). I’ve been made aware by a colleague that not many have applied which is great! But the job might be advertised externally if candidates aren’t what they are looking for. Its just a job in a section filing, invoices etc so no big brains required.

The interviews I've had have been more informal chats than interviews and I'm dreading the question.

Its more hours, 52 weeks a year instead of my 37. More money which i really need but i cant give that answer.

I have 26 years of office experience and it’s all i know. I currently run the office at the school and don’t it well.
Please inspire me!

Don't say "because it's walking distance from home", which is what I said Grin. To be fair, I was quite hapoy not to get the job but I do think that answer was my down fall.

How about saying because you are highly organised and feel you would be able to do the job to a high standard as required.

I would talk about the impact the role had on the wider work of the council. That administrative roles supported frontline staff to work more effectively and you wanted to contribute toward some that.

I might talk about it as an opportunity to consolidate and develop your skills and that longer term you hoped to take on more responsibility. Explain you’ve been in your current job a long time and love it but that it’s time for a new challenge. This post allows you to step outside your comfort zone just enough that you know you can do it very well but are excited about learning new things and meeting new people.
