How to stop my soap cracking!

Dull thread I realise and apologise in advance!

We've moved away from hand soap in a bottle as a step towards reducing plastic waste, is there anyway we can stop it looking so manky? It's cracked and looks horrible now.

Thanks!

Mine does this too, watching with interest. (I;m buying "ordinary" bars from the supermarket, Imperial Leather, Dove etc. they all see to crack and look horrible very quickly.)

I think it’s repeated wetting and drying. And handling it without first wetting and rubbing hands to remove worst of dirt first. The older the bar the worse it looks, I tend to cut mine into smaller bits so they get used up faster. Especially hand soap. I also rotate them as the ones by the kitchen sink and in the shower get used faster and don’t look manly at all.

I never seem to get this with glycerin body shop bars. Imperial leather was the worst for cracking though!

Mine crack if they get soggy then dry out - so keeping them out of sitting water, and just picking up with wet hands, lathering, then putting back on a dish that drains, and isnt in the direct flow of e.g tye shower would be my suggestion.

@loutypips I'd forgotten about those glycerin bars, I remember those from years ago! I'll try and get one and a better soap dish.

Good quality soap shouldn't crack. Doesn't necessarily mean expensive. TK Maxx do some very good soap. Bit more expensive that more standard soaps but worth it as they last much much longer.

Buunylover · 05/10/2019 14:58

I have used Dove bars of soap for years, they have never cracked.

Bluetac19 · 05/10/2019 15:01

Just put up with the cracks and have a bottle of squirty stuff in a cupboard that you can put out when you have guests?

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 05/10/2019 15:02

Pears soap doesn't seem to crack.

IceCreamConewithaflake · 05/10/2019 15:06

Really glad you posted this OP! I would like to use more bars of soap but am put off by the cracking.
Will try Pears and Dove.
