SPOILER ALERT

ET: The bathroom scene, where ET and Elliot are on the floor and Elliot gets taken away, with ET screaming for him to come back 😢😢 And of course when ET is found all grey and dying in the water, then when he temporarily dies and obviously the ending 😭

Forest Gump: When nobody lets young Forest sit down on the bus and then he sees Jenny for the first time 😥 When Jenny dies "Every night we read a book and he's so smart Jenny. You'd be so proud of him" 😭😭😭

Atonement: The ending, when Bryony explains the reality 😢

Theory of Everything: The croquet scene. There's no dialogue, but it's heart breaking. When Stephen has had his operation and can no longer talk. The look they give one another 💔 Also when Jane breaks up with Stephen "I have loved you. I did my best" and he just looks broken and they cry together 😢

The Reader: When Michael sees Hannah in court and realises she's actually illiterate after she refuses to give a sample of her hand writing and then her sentence. When Hannah hears Michael's voice on the recorder and of course the ending 😭😭😭

I have so many more, including Disney and Pixar Blush but I'd be here all day!

Over to you...

Yes to the last scene in Schindlers list and nearly all of Miss Saigon

user1471504234 · 04/10/2019 23:34

@peachgreen yes to the final 10 minutes of Six Feet Under. There is also another scene, perhaps at the end of season 2, where there is some kind of event/party going on and Nathaniel appears, watches for a while and then walks away up the stairs. I’m crying now just thinking about it!

Also, the moment in T2 Trainspotting where Spud comes out onto the street and has a flashback to the time they all ran down the same street together. Plus various other moments in that film.
And I can no longer watch The Snowman without fighting to hold back tears for the entire film...

PrivateSpidey · 04/10/2019 23:35

I often cry not with sadness but because something is so well done/acted

Yes, 100%.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/10/2019 23:45

In Philadelphia where Tom Hank's character visits Denzil Washington's charcter's office . The lawyer who could get anyone off any charge . And he says "I can't help you".
So he stands outside in the cold and blizzard in his jumper ...and his eyes well up and his bottom lip trembles ... Sad

'Only Fools and Horses' after Rodneys engagement where he's cursing Del through the bathroom door for not lending him the money for his deposit . Then we see Del sitting on the bath bruised and battered because he didn't give the money to The Driscoll Brothers .

DoctorTwo · 04/10/2019 23:46

Scrubs when you realise Dr Cox's brother in law (Brandon Fraser) is actually Dead.

Oh yes. The realisation on Perry's face.

Percivalthebabyspider · 04/10/2019 23:47

Barbara's death in call the midwife, especially Linda Basset sitting alone on the steps. She was incredible.
Yes to Sybil in DA.

iknowimcoming · 04/10/2019 23:48

Australia - I sing you to me Mrs Boss
Indecent proposal - when they meet up on the bench at the end
Up close and personal - when she sees his boots with the red laces on the body slightly off camera
Stepmom - most of it
Call the midwife - all of it
Downton abbey. Just rewatching the whole series before seeing the film and I've cried most episodes but particularly Sybil's death and Anna's assault (I actually sobbed)

Fluffiest · 04/10/2019 23:51

Just reading the thread is enough to make me weepy. I cry very easily now, I blame it on having kids. I didn't used to be so soft.

Daddy, it's my Daddy from the Railway children. I used to reenact this scene whenever it was Dad's turn to pick me up from school. I was a dramatic child.

Animals of Farthing Wood when you think Fox is dead.

Return of the King - I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Desperate housewives - when they take Gabby's adopted baby back and her voice cracks when she says "it's too late, we already love her"

unicornsandrainbows98 · 04/10/2019 23:53

A fault in our stars- the whole flipping movie from start to end.
P.s I love you- it's just sad
Remember me- the last scene
The notebook- where Alley comes back to Noah after years apart and also the part where they die together at the end
A walk to remember

Ginger1982 · 04/10/2019 23:54

@iknowimcoming Yes to Stepmom...especially the scene where Julia and Susan are talking about the daughter's wedding.

"And my fear is...that she won't."

Lotsofpots · 04/10/2019 23:54

You'd have to have a heart of stone not to cry at the scene in the season one finale of The Big C where Laura linney's son finds the lock up full of presents she's bought him for all the birthdays, Christmases and life events she'll miss when she dies. It is devastating.

Zoidbergonthehalfshell · 04/10/2019 23:56

I know it was a terrible film, but the final scene of Day of the Dolphin - "Fa loves Pa!"

Whowouldfardelsbear · 04/10/2019 23:58

I, Daniel Blake - the foodbank scene

SilverChime · 05/10/2019 00:02

When the horse dies in the swamp of sadness in The Never Ending Story
This is now on Netflix to traumatise a whole new generation. And it has a U certificate so they won’t even see it coming.

KronksSpinachPuffs · 05/10/2019 00:03

Not rtft so these might have been said already.

  1. The scene at the end of titanic where the old couple are in bed together
  2. In One Day where it skips to a year after Anne Hathaway has died and her husband is sobbing on the floor
  3. The end of the notebook
  4. The end of Hachi a dogs tale where Richard gere has died and the dog waits outside the train station for him

Theres probably loads more but those are my main ones! a lot of people say Marley and me and while I love the film it's never made me cry

cowbag1 · 05/10/2019 00:04

One not mentioned yet is the Magdalene Sisters. Really harrowing film but the worat bit is where you find out what happened to Crispina at the end, after all she'd been through Sad

Also the scene where Tom Hanks breaks down after being rescued in Captain Phillips. Amazing acting.

Africa2go · 05/10/2019 00:06

@Doublevodka Yes to Charlotte Gray and the letter to the boys telling them to hold hands and eat even if they didnt feel like it.

And Instant Family - my children told me it was a comedy. I sobbed for 2 hours in the cinema. When the eldest daughter realises her real mum isnt coming its awfully sad.

KronksSpinachPuffs · 05/10/2019 00:06

@unicornsandrainbows98 oh my sweet jesus I forgot about remember me! The first time I watched that I cried and cried!

Oh I completely forgot but another one to add to my list above - I nearly had a breakdown at the end of Me before you

Graphista · 05/10/2019 00:11

"Coronation Street when Stan Ogden died and Hilda sobbed over his glasses. Wonderful acting." OMG yes I don't watch soaps any more at least partly because the writing and acting just isn't as good as it was, it's all about the "beautiful ones" now and deliberately trying to shock the audience.

Also when Vera duckworth died.

Although I thought Jamie Mitchell's death in eastenders was well played (really pisses me off that they seem to have forgotten that billy used to batter him and he's now a "loveable" character)

Anyone watch soldier soldier? One of the most heartbreaking scenes I've ever seen was annabelle Apsion playing a bereaved joy Wilton after husband Tony's death, she's kinda been holding it together and getting on with dealing with everything then it's all "back to normality" supposedly and she goes to do her ironing - such a mundane day to day task - and she just quietly picks up one of Tonys things and just holds it to her face and breathes in deeply taking in the last remnants of his scent that she has left and that's when she breaks.

Like the Hilda scene, it's the little reminders of a loved one lost that catch us out.

JuicyFrooty I love project X it moves me too. But I don't think younger generations will "get it" in quite the way we did watching it while the cloud of nuclear war felt so much more present than it does now.

League of their own - the telegram. When Tom hanks character rightly takes it from the delivery boy rather than have them all wondering who it's for and the grief of Betty as she realises it's for her...

"Up close and personal - when she sees his boots with the red laces on the body slightly off camera"
Omg yes! Also a true story but annoying they wimped out on PROPERLY keeping it true as iirc it was a lesbian couple

"Stepmom - most of it" my dd has a lovely stepmum (as a stepmum that is), watching this in recent years with my own declining health has become harder.

"My fear is she'll think 'I wish my mom were here' "

"My fear is...she won't"

LotsOfPots absolutely agree big C was a great show I love Laura linney

Yutes · 05/10/2019 01:10

A Monster Calls

WellGoshDarnIt · 05/10/2019 01:20

@DamonSalvatoresDinner - I was going to say Stranger Things 3 as well. The final episode...I was in pieces from the duet onwards, and then that letter.......SadSad

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 05/10/2019 01:23

Beaches - I can't watch it again because it upsets me too much.

I always sob at the end of Phantom, when Christine kisses Erik without his mask on and then leaves him for Raoul (the fool). And when she is in Pere Lachaise talking to her father's grave. DH used to mock me for being so soft Grin

FrowningFlamingo · 05/10/2019 06:46

@MyHeartIsBrokeButIHaveSomeGlue Maybe!! I am still see the wtf look on his face. I’m a crier anyway so it must have been worse than usual.

I’ve thought of another - the end on Pay It Forward. With the candles. Heartbreaking.

Bucatini · 05/10/2019 06:50

Manchester by the Sea. Devastating.

flapjackfairy · 05/10/2019 06:57

Emma Thompson has a lot to answer for imo.
I always cry in Sense and Sensibility when she is begging Marianne not to die and I can't get through the ending of Nanny Mcphee 2 when the dad returns .
And Saving Mr Banks is not much better either.
The woman should carry a health warning !
