Police were out last week with a speed gun. I think they clocked me doing just over 35 in a 30 zone.. i know... my fault, Im not normally a speeder, just had my mind on other things that morning...
How long does it normally take to get a fine sent to you? Urgh and how much do you get fined amd points? I have no clue...

If caught and not stopped at the time, you will be notified within 14 days (assuming your address is so correct with dvla)
Fingers crossed you don't hear anything!

sunnysunchild · 04/10/2019 15:09

How much is the fine and points? DH muttering on about speed awareness courses... he is so smug!!

If you haven't done a speed awareness course in the last 3 years you may be offered one, I think it depends on where you were caught speeding and how much over you were going.

I paid about £90 to do a speed awareness course. If you do that, you don’t get points.

PurpleDaisies · 04/10/2019 15:15

If you were doing 35 in a 30, you’ll be offered a marginal speeding course.

sunnysunchild · 04/10/2019 15:16

Never had any points at all in 20 years driving. Ill be totally gutted if i get points and a fine, but I probably deserve it.... but normally I drive better than many of the arseholes on the roads... typical my luck.

Doesn't sound like you was much over, so you would probably be offered speed awareness course. This means no points, but I dunno how much the courses are cos I don't deal with them. if you were caught you'd first get sent a form to the registered keeper requesting name & address of driver. Once they've established the driver, options would be Offered e.g speed awareness, conditional offer, court hearing etc.
if offered I would go for speed awareness As no points

PinkBuffalo · 04/10/2019 15:20

I wouldn't worry about until you definitely know you've been caught though!

sunnysunchild · 04/10/2019 15:22

Thanks all... will keep my fingers crossed... And watch my speed from now on..!!

Mine was from a speed van a few weeks ago and came through 6 days later

Whatthefunk · 04/10/2019 16:11

£100 and 3 points. I've just done a speed awareness course, it was very interesting actually. It costs about £90, but saves getting the points, which affect your insurance

Whatthefunk · 04/10/2019 16:12

I was doing 34 in a 30 zone

coconuttelegraph · 04/10/2019 16:15

I don't think there's a normal amount to time they take just a maximum numbers of days they have to send out the letter.

Unless things have changed they don't send out fines do they? You have to fill in the letter about who was driving, send it back,, wait some more time to hear if they are going to do anything etc.

Eminybob · 04/10/2019 16:22

I got mine through 2 days after the event! That was a van.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 04/10/2019 16:58

Mine was within a week- five days I think. I was doing 35 in a 30 zone. I paid £90 and did the speed awareness course.

Easilyflattered · 04/10/2019 17:06

Mine arrived about 10 days later, first offence doing 37 in a 30. Paid 90 quid to do a speed awareness course.

Have tried to be more careful ever since so I guess the course has been effective!

elaeocarpus · 08/10/2019 18:26

Do you have to pay the fine and the course fee on top of that as well; or is it course fee instead of fine?

Asking for a friend....

BarbaraofSeville · 08/10/2019 20:02

It's just the course fee instead of the fine, according to a friend of mine....

Aderyn19 · 08/10/2019 21:30

Dh's took 28 days even though they are legally obliged to notify you within 14. He was doing 36 in a 30 and has been sent on a speed awareness course.

Aderyn19 · 08/10/2019 21:30

Course is instead of fine and points.
