Reserve sports day

Quick question: I have a child who has just started in reception and no older children, so I'm a bit new to school-related terminology. If there is a school sports day and a "reserve" sports day, what is the reserve sports day? I play a sport quite seriously and to be a reserve is to not quite make the team, so I at first assumed there was a second sports day for the less athletically gifted... then I thought nah, surely it's just a back up date in case of unforeseen circumstances... and now I'm really confused! Thank you.

It's in case the first one is rained off.

Phew, of course it is :) Honestly I've been working for weeks on the assumption it was a "B team" sports day, and wondering how I would support ds if he didn't happen to be a fast enough runner for the "main" sports day, knowing how proud he is of his "super fast running" - now I feel like a knob! Thanks for the clarity.

Yes, it is to let the parents know in advance so they can book time off if needed. My DD's primary has used the spare sports day when the field was a quagmire from previous rain!

They do try and avoid calling it off if at all possible, but with the great British weather it does happen.

Oh bless. Don't worry, everyone should get a go on sports day.
FWIW the DCs school has team games in the morning, then running in the afternoon. Other local primaries follow a similar schedule.

I’d assume it’s a back up date in case of rain.

DC’s school had to reschedule sports day 4 times because it kept clashing with bad weather a few years ago.

Also in all the primary school sports days I’ve been to, every child’s been included in the races.

In case it needs rescheduling due to weather etc

I quite like the idea of a B Team sports day for the not so sporty kids to have a chance to shine without feeling the pressure!

You see that's the thing, i can see that being something really positive for older kids - maybe secondary school - who can opt out of the super competitive sports day and into a more participation based one. I did think it would be a bit harsh to tell a four year old they didn't make the cut for their first ever reception sports day though, then assumed I was being overprotective Blush
