Cost of Cinema

Hadn’t been for a while. DH and I went to the cinema on Wednesday. We did the meer cats 241 thing, so it cost just under £11 .
We took our own food and drink from poundland,😀and the film was great, so I suppose all and all it was a cheapish couple of hours. Saw a family of four in front of us with no discount tickets, so paying the full whack, and bought drinks and snacks. It must have been at least £60 😮 I noticed that the cinema wasn’t that busy. Do people pay full price for the cinema and buy food? I have always taken our own snacks and drinks.

My local cinema doesn't allow your own food and drink and they check your bags on the way in Confused

If you get caught with contraband they kick you out

MyDcAreMarvel · 06/10/2019 21:41

We buy our tickets through HASSRA also civil service.

Shock I’ve checked with mine and we are definitely allowed. I hate breaking rules so I don’t think I’d risk sneaking food in!!!

That's why we don't either @TryingAndFailing39 it's not worth it!

But by the time I buy 2 tickets and we get a drink plus popcorn each it costs about £30 for me and DH Shock

We have 3 cinemas in our local town. All charge about £11 per adult ticket. We could do Meercat but don't get home from work until nearly 7pm most days so it's not really an option.

We only go to the cinema about once a month, not because of the price but because of not having enough time.

Our local Odeon is £3 a ticket and local Vue is £4.99.
Basically Odeon own the building so can charge so little and Vue has to try and compete.
The next town along is about £8 a ticket and tickets in the nearest city are easily £14 each

Getoffmylilo · 06/10/2019 21:57

£4.99 tickets at Vue here as well. Take my own drink in but will buy popcorn if hungry. Used to have Picturehouse cinema membership when in London - was a good deal at the time, certain number of free tickets and discounts on refreshments and some other retail/food outlets. Don't know if they still do it.

PrivateSpidey · 06/10/2019 22:00

Our nearest is Vue as well, £4.99 each. Although I always book in advance online so we have our seats and can turn up right when the film starts and don't have to sit through the trailers/ads. So booking adds 75p each or something. Usually take our own Minstrels or similar. So it's a pretty cheap outing for us overall.

Can't believe £38 for a bog standard family ticket Shock that's outrageous!

Agree with PPs re Everyman though. There's one not too far from us although only been a couple of times - that feels much more of a treat. And a lot more expensive.

mamaduckbone · 07/10/2019 20:44

We always get snacks from elsewhere unless it's a really special treat (eg dcs birthday).
Our local independent does a family of four ticket for £24 or I get Odeon group on vouchers - wouldn't pay full price multiplex again unless it was for something special.

Download the Hold app.
You build up points when you're not using your phone but you still get calls texts.
I saw Joker last night for a fiver and free popcorn thanks to the app.

Film is brilliant.

I’m going tonight on meerkats. Haven’t decided what to see yet.
I’m seriously thinking about getting a Cineworld card, especially as i’ve learned on this thread that it works with meercats😀
Through a discount scheme at dh’s work I can get it for £170.
