Cost of Cinema

Hadn’t been for a while. DH and I went to the cinema on Wednesday. We did the meer cats 241 thing, so it cost just under £11 .
We took our own food and drink from poundland,😀and the film was great, so I suppose all and all it was a cheapish couple of hours. Saw a family of four in front of us with no discount tickets, so paying the full whack, and bought drinks and snacks. It must have been at least £60 😮 I noticed that the cinema wasn’t that busy. Do people pay full price for the cinema and buy food? I have always taken our own snacks and drinks.

We have dinner first but have ice cream at the cinema for pudding. Though dp complains about the price but he enjoys complaining so that's good. And I buy the tickets (half price via work) and ice cream, he buys dinner.

OnlyFoolsnMothers our odeon used to be £12, I went this week and got the shock of my life at being charged £6. Apparently they reviewed their pricing a few weeks ago and have made a permanent reduction. I'm much more likely to go now!

AJPTaylor · 04/10/2019 10:27

Which odeon is a five?

I have always taken my own snacks into the cinema... which I don't nearly finish before the film has even started Happy to pay full price for tickets, as we don't go that frequently.

AJPTaylor · 04/10/2019 10:27

Or fiver?

HotChocolateLover · 04/10/2019 10:31

Yes, they do pay full price @ExecutiveFiat because you saw them 😂 Sorry to point out the obvious.

Marybennet · 04/10/2019 10:32

OnlyFoolsnMothers It is smack bang in the centre of our city and is an old (but really nice inside) cinema. Maybe they need to have cheap tickets because the parking nearby isn't free. All the films are the up to date ones.

Marybennet · 04/10/2019 10:34

AJPTaylor It's in the centre of Bristol.

Mrsjayy · 04/10/2019 10:34

Our Vue used to be the most expensive cinema in Scotland £13 a standard ticket !

ZogorElmer · 04/10/2019 10:37

Where are these cinemas? Mine is £13.25 a ticket for a town in the midlands! I haven’t been in years because of the cost.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/10/2019 10:42

Just checked our odeon on line (south east london)- still expensive, guess no review of the prices down here.

ExecutiveFiat · 04/10/2019 10:44

Are vue and odeon in the meerkat offer?

OP posts:
Doyoumind · 04/10/2019 12:32

Yes OP.

runwithme · 04/10/2019 12:38

Groupon sometimes have deals. I agree though...its so expensive normally. We always pop to sainsbury's to get a drink each and some sweets/popcorn.

ChessieFL · 04/10/2019 12:41

I hardly ever go to the cinema, partly because of the price. I used to use Tesco club card vouchers but they’ve stopped doing those for Odeon now and I haven’t been since. We only go at the weekends on the rare occasions we do go, so the meerkat offers etc are no good to us. I will have to look to see if it’s got cheaper where I am!

SuzieBishop · 04/10/2019 12:46

We just booked our tickets to see Joker and it was £22 for just the 2 of us! Plus we’ll most likely go out for dinner beforehand! It does stack up like!!

ExecutiveFiat · 04/10/2019 13:40

Thanks Doy

Local vue is £6.99 which isn’t too bad but I always take my own snacks. Cinema food is quite pricey. Sometimes go to a cinema near work in central London and it’s £18 a ticket! I almost fainted the first time I went

ExecutiveFiat · 04/10/2019 13:45

Suzie We’re going again next week to see Joker, and are using the 241 meerkats in Chiqutos afterwards. It can definitely add up when you add on dinner as well!
I remember when the cinema used to be a cheap night out.

we very rarely go to the cinema as a family, but when we do i just think we might as well go the whole hog and splurge on snacks and drinks too. me and my partner took our two sons a few weeks ago and with the price of tickets and snacks/drinks and parking we spent about £80 🙈 as a treat every so often though i don’t mind paying it.

MintyMabel · 04/10/2019 14:53

Why does anyone need to eat while watching a film? Don’t you have dinner before you go?

Imagine! You have to wonder why the cinema bothers selling the stuff

imclaustrophobicdarren · 04/10/2019 15:09

I'm an Everyman snob! Costs us a small fortune but it's the best cinema experience ever! I would go to say a vue now. To be honest though, I don't often go.

HelloDoris · 04/10/2019 17:08

Our Vue is £4.99 per ticket for any film, they do have more expensive seats but we enjoy the bog standard ones. We take the kids once a month on average, tend to buy drinks there but take sweets in.

Dowser · 04/10/2019 18:15

We do meerkats..£4-99 at vue cinema for the two of us
I take a bottle of water..job done. We’ve been often done meerkat meals beforehand
Not into huge bucket sized popcorn
I wouldn’t eat it at home so certainly wouldn’t at the cinema
I wouldn’t pay through the nose for sweets I can buy much cheaper but now we are gf and df a lot of that kind of stuff is off the menu anyway

Dowser · 04/10/2019 18:17

£80 for 4 at the cinema ...faints.
Me and dh can go 16 times for that..free parking as well
