What's parking like in York? Is it difficult to park at weekends? DH wants to book parking on advance but it is necessary?

Expensive, but not hard to find. If you don't mind parking and catching a bus, you're welcome to park outside my house. Bus stop

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 03/10/2019 22:20

You'd be better off catching the Park and Ride as there's plenty of car parks but always busy.

The York park and ride carparks are very good, I always use the designer outlet one, never any problems finding a space and very regular buses. Far less hassle than driving into the city centre.

It depends what time you are going. We go on a Saturday quite a lot and always get there before 11, we have always got a space in Peel street car park without fail. It's only small but dead handy, and there is an NCP nearby for back up in the event it is full.
The park and ride is always a handy option too though.

I also would park and ride if you can. It’s cheap and fast getting in and out of town.

floodypuddle · 03/10/2019 22:29

It can be an absolute nightmare. I've sent an hour driving around in the past in the weekend. I'd book in advance..

Tojigornot · 03/10/2019 22:30

Yeah park and ride. York is basically one large car park...

mrsrhodgilbert · 03/10/2019 23:18

Never failed to park, we use the one on Gillygate. We have booked the Q parking near the Barbican for evening concerts for convenience but probably didn’t have to.

MirandaWest · 03/10/2019 23:19

Where are you going and where are you coming from?

MirandaWest · 03/10/2019 23:19

And how long will you be in York?

TottieandMarchpane · 03/10/2019 23:20

If you’re comparing to London, Manchester or similar, it’s a piece of cake.

WishITookLifeSeriously · 03/10/2019 23:21

I always park at Vanguard retail park and bus in to town. The buses usually come every 10-15 minutes

Ginfordinner · 03/10/2019 23:21

Another vote for park and ride. Parking in the middle of York is horrifically expensive. As we approach York from the south I always parkat Askham Bar park and ride.
