Has anyone tried magnetic earrings?

Has anyone tried magnetic earrings on their children?

My daughter is four and has started to ask to have her ears pierced. I feel she is too young but I started to research clip on earrings and stumbled upon magnetic ones online.

I've never heard of them before, so was wondering if anyone had and could give some feedback or recommendations for good ones.

I'd be concerned about having having magnets around a child. They are potentially very, very dangrous if swallowed. Maybe try the sticky-on earings?

@Aknifewith16blades oh my goodness I didn't even think of that!

I've not had to worry about them swallowing stuff for a while.. however you are right. It's a risk that's not worth taking.

Thank you.

Sticky on ones much safer if you have young children, and /or pets. My dd is 12 and bought some magnetic ones, but they are a stress as I worry about the dog picking up a magnet. It is unlikely but I still worry.

Magnetic earrings can hurt - stick to the stick on ones

keepingbees · 03/10/2019 21:35

Claire's Accessories sell children's clip on earrings. My dd wore them for the same reason

SquitMcJit · 03/10/2019 21:37

We found the magnetic ones did not stay on at all! Total rubbish. I’d also agree with previous posters that the magnets used are super-tiny and would be so easy for a young child (or a pet) to swallow. Definitely avoid

ReggaetonLente · 03/10/2019 21:42

They hurt, a lot. So do clip ons.

Stick on ones probably best for now

DD got given a packed of magnetic earrings at about that age. I think she lost about 6 earrings in about 2 hours as they fell off so quickly.

funmummy48 · 03/10/2019 22:02

We used stick on one's at that age.

My DD7 has tried the magnetic earrings from Claire's and they are rubbish, one nudge and they fall off and get lost. We get on best with the stick on ones that they sell, you get a sheet of about 20 pairs for a few pounds and although they don't last she really likes them. For the time being they are helping us massively as I'm not letting her have her ears pierced until she is old enough to look after them herself.

I had my ears peirced with little gold studs the day I was born in the hospital, because that's just tradition where I'm from haha, thankful my mother did this because then when your older you don't remember the pain and they will already have healed up in 6 weeks. Personally I would just let her get her ears pierced it's just a tiny piece of jewellery but obviously thats not how everyone thinks. I'm not trying to pressure you or sound rude so sorry if I have in any way come across like that!

I completely agree with others saying about not buying magnetic earrings, I heard about a terrible case where this little girl swollowed these to magnets at separate times and had to get surgery to remove them poor thing :(

Stick on earrings are ok but they do tend to fall off quite easily or get lost but I'd recommend it instead of other options like clip on.

Try the pound shop or the range for stick on crafting jewels - that way if she loses one then there’s about another 98 to go at!
