I saw on twitter about this, I’ve never watched the US version but I thought I’d give it a go. I’m ten minutes in and so far it’s been wall to wall slut shaming and misogyny in the name of empowerment. Am I missing something? I don’t understand why it’s hilarious to dress up in women’s clothes and then send feminism and equality back 50 years Confused

I love Ru Pauls Drag Race..always have.I think from my point of view it encapsulates the trials and struggles and triumphs of modern drag...The art of drag is so skillful with exquisite performances and requires immense dedication and performance skills.I wold persevere OP to the main catwalk end bit to see how powerful the performances really are..Alot of these guys are wanting acceptance and they all want to be the best at what they do.Most drag queens I know are in fact straight men who take this career option really seriously. Two out of my friends especially are so so good at their alter ego's you would be really hard pushed to tell they were men when they are on stage. It is really all about showmanship and being the best you can be and to entertain. The first two challenges on the show are often pointless it appears but they all tend to tie in with the end segment. Its over coming challenges to be the best you can be....bit like life really in general but with sequins!!! I would recommend season 5 out of all the seasons as my favourite some of the artists on their were outstandingly good and very human so it was possible to relate and get an idea of what they were all about more,

SamBeckett
Spot on - a sport where women compete alongside men and often beat them.

@Moon i agree , and unless you follow/ watch a particular driver most of the time you wouldn't even know if it's a male /female driver as they often go by the team name .
No one gives two hoots what the sex of the driver / mechs/ team is they want dry weather , speed and a quart mile of tarmac .Smile

I can't watch it Palindromic, I feel the same. I know there's a certain art form to it and it was born from the prejudice and injustice they faced as gay men. Part of me feels that again women are the butt of the joke. I also have an aversion to sequins and razzle dazzle.

Much prefer car racing.

There's a thread worth reading in Feminism Chat OP.
