Sanitising reusable nappies

I've posted on a group I'm on and it hasn't been approved yet, but ideally I want to crack on with sanitising my reusable nappies tonight!
I picked up some second hand reusable nappies today, and I was wondering if I can use Milton to sanitise the inserts?
I was thinking of running the bath, putting lots of Milton in, letting them all soak, rinsing them, repeating until the water is clear, and then doing a hot wash to make the Milton is out?

Napisan?

Soak and use as washing powder.

Just wash at 60 with a few spoonfuls of Napisan and very little powder.

Ill have to order some Napisan, was just hoping I could maybe get started a bit quicker. Was expecting to get started in the middle of the month though so a bit better I suppose

Reusable nappies user here. Just a hot wash will be ok. Just check they can go in at 90 degrees. What brand are they? Look at the nappy ladies who is really useful.
Also remember monthly to wash your washing machine. I always forget and they start to smell after a while.

Agree with pp, long hot wash will be fine, napisan not recommended for many modern nappy brands I think.

They're from practical baby? I'll chuck them in the wash and see what happens!
I'm on the nappy lady group, and a couple others and people keep talking about stripping and sanitising nappies so I got all confused 😂
Picked up six nappies and inserts for less than £2 so excited to use them 😂

That's a bargain, hope they work well for you.

This has got some info about washing, abs the fact that with a hot wash napisan/Milton should be unnecessary www.thenappylady.co.uk/news/mad-master-advice-document.html

Have they got a PUL? If so then a 90 wash may damage that. Are they coloured fabric? If so the Milton (essentially bleach) might leave strange stains.

Grimbles · 03/10/2019 19:01

Do not soak them! A long hot wash at 60 will be fine Smile

thatguiltyfeeling · 03/10/2019 19:03

Can't really describe the fabric, you can tell it's cheap. I suppose if the hot wash does damage the outer wrap at least I'll still have inserts and it's not like they're breaking the bank. They're in the washing machine now so 🤞

Just do a hot wash and you will be fine. Good on you!

Knickerbockergloryonthebeach · 03/10/2019 19:11

Even with my cheapy pul nappies I would occasionally do a hot wash to cleanse. Maybe if they're well used it might damage but shouldn't if only done now and then.

thatguiltyfeeling · 03/10/2019 22:53

Slightly damaged one nappy, but I think it will still be fine to use, at least for a while as I get used to reusables! Thank you everyone 😊
