Strictly - why does the BBC assume that everyone is obsessed?

it’s ridiculous. 45 minutes every single night during the week, the endless Saturday night show, the results on Sunday.

i’d quite like it to piss off, but it’s only just begun. i am surely not alone in my curmudgeonly view on this?

It's better than Ant and Dec.

Samcro · 03/10/2019 15:34

its only for this week, it goes back to bbc2 next week.
something to do with the athletics.

ChicCroissant · 03/10/2019 15:36

It is a massive money spinner for the BBC Worldwide as it is licenced to many other countries and held the Guinness Book of Records title as the most popular reality TV show for a bit (I think it's Simon Cowell stuff now though).

It is on BBC1 tonight and tomorrow and then it goes back to BBC2 as usual next week (It Takes Two programme).

I don’t watch Strictly, but even I know that It’s the BBC’s flagship show and is hugely popular.

If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. I watch loads of sport on Sky. Much better than watching soap actors trying to dance.

Zeldasmagicwand · 03/10/2019 15:43

I've tried to watch Strictly on about 3 occasions over the years and I really don't understand why people (sis-in-law) love it?
Agree with others and thank god for Netflix and Amazon Prime.

I've been poorly for a few days so watching the odd bit of non Netflix tv and I was shocked with how many adverts for online gambling sites there are! How can they be allowed?

SistersOfPercy · 03/10/2019 15:49

I've tried to get into it, mostly after seeing Kev in Rock of Ages earlier this year, but I just can't. I get bored really quickly with it.

”SDTG You do well to make the dogs last until 6 pm. The cats insist on provision of their food being the first task that is completed on entering the house.”

They do often look faint from lack of nourishment, @BarbaraofSeville - or, at least, they do a good imitation of near-death levels of starvation - but I am hard hearted and cruel.

wishiwasinthesun · 03/10/2019 16:12

First time I haven't watched! I think it has had its day, don't like many of the contestants this year, probably because I've never heard of half of them!

JuneFromBethesda · 03/10/2019 16:22

I'm another Strictly curmudgeon. I wouldn't mind the TV coverage so much but it's constantly being discussed on the radio. Radio 5 is particularly bad for that, but Radio 4 does it too. It's like the football World Cup but at least that's only every four years Hmm

Kaykay06 · 03/10/2019 16:29

I watch the sat night thing and sometimes the Sunday night thing, but never watched any of the week day programmes. I have a remote control so I turn on what I want rather than whinging about what I don’t want to watch...I don’t think the BBC thinks anyone is obsessed with it, just cheap for them to use the celebs etc to make these daft spin offs I should think.

exWifebeginsAgainat46 · 03/10/2019 19:44

is it really moving back to BBC2 next week? do i get Pointless back where it should be?

this is a Good News Day!

I watched it when John Sargent was on, and in the series that Mark Ramprakash was in I decided to watch until he was eliminated, but he wasn't so I saw it all.
I used to watch Pointless, but have developed a dislike of Anthony Armstrong.

LadySybilPussPolham · 03/10/2019 21:30

Strictly is as dull as watching a puddle and I am utterly baffled by its huge appeal...sometimes I try it again in case I’m missing something obvious, but no - it’s just tedious! Fortunately the DC don’t care for it and there isn’t a fan club at work so I don’t have to listen to endless analysis Wink
