Help! Lost the urine sample pot

Argh. Been fasting DT2 of fluids overnight for blood and urine tests at 8am. Not easy as the reason he needs the test is because he drinks insane amounts.

Just getting set up to put cotton will into his nappy to collect some (hopefully) concentrated wee since he’s had no fluids from midnight, which I was then going to use a syringe to squeeze into the collection pot... but the bloody collection pot has vanished. Have searched high and low, now wondering if I miscounted and we used one last time.

If I put the wet cotton wool into an Ikea freezer bag can we do it at the hospital? Since neither his nappy or the cotton wool are sterile I can’t see it being that big an issue but who knows.

Can’t just leave it in his nappy since he’s likely to poo in the next hour and that will ruin it.

Yes that’s a good idea. The amount of urine samples I’ve seen sent in coke bottles and Tupperware is astounding.

What will they be testing for? You wouldn’t want to leave it in the wool too long if it’s a urine infection test, an hour should be fine though.

Thank you GhostPost - the urine is being tested for something related to Diabetes insipidus (alongside the blood tests) and a metabolic test they tried to do before but his first morning urine was too dilute.

I’ll put some fresh cotton wool in his nappy on the way to the hospital just in case and hope he doesn’t poo again.

Well for the first time in his life he’s gone 45 mins without doing a wee 🤷‍♀️

So he’s off to hospital with the cotton wool in place and just hoping he does enough wee for a sample as I do not want to have to do this again any time soon!

Hope it was fine in the end! Typical kids; never perform when you need them to 😉😁
