Nappy rash

Feel a bit silly asking this question...
My baby is suffering with nappy rash, we have been letting lie without a nappy on to let the air get to it. People say to put nappy cream on it but others say to talc it as it needs to dry out?
What do you do?

i use sudocrem (put a little on and massage in until it is clear, if it is white too much has been applied), then put the nappy back on. make sure to change them quickly (as soon as possible after they have used the nappy) to stop it getting worse and keep applying the sudocrem, which you can use even after the rash has gone as a preventative measure x

I wouldn’t use talc, especially not if you have a girl, given the cancer cases and lawsuits. A thin layer of cream (we like Weleda), frequent changes and time without a nappy should hopefully clear it up soon.

A couple.of things we have found really helped:

  • let it air as much as possible
  • metanium is an excellent nappy cream
  • one thing I read was not to wipe with water as it doesnt help with the cream. So if it's just a wet nappy just change the nappy, dont wipe at all. If its dirty wipe with cotton pads and oil - not water. We used cocount oil. Then let it dry and reapply cream
Sorted it in about 2 days.

Sudocrem usually works like.magic for nappy rash.

RoLaren · 02/10/2019 17:43

Another vote for Metanium - magical stuff!

Best thing for us was canestan thrush cream.

Cindyloo20 · 02/10/2019 20:08

Thanks for your replies! We can’t use sudacream as the last time it flared it up massively. We usually use bepanthane but will look into the other creams.

Metanium is fab, but if rash is fungal then I agree with PP on Canesten thrush cream.

Cornettoninja · 02/10/2019 20:13

metanium is excellent stuff for nappy rashes especially for overnight.

I went retro in the end and had a washing up bowl with warm soapy water to dunk dd’s bum to wash and then pat with a towel and allow to air as much as possible. It’s not convenient for out and about but it seemed to help clear up any rashes super quick.

I’ve heard good things about cleaning with oil too.

NeverGotMyPuppy · 02/10/2019 20:24

Yes if it has white spots then its fungal
