Where to buy doc martens?

Dd likes doc martens but they seem really expensive. He’s size 9. On the website they’re £139! There are some cheaper ones on amazon but does anyone know the cheapest place to get them? Just normal black ones.

eBay?

Karwomannghia · 02/10/2019 08:18

Oh yes! How come they’re so much cheaper are they fake??

If you sign up for DM emails, they several you a 10% off code, although I signed up on Sunday and the code still wasn’t working by yesterday, so I gave up.

There is a camping shop called Winfields who sometimes have DM’s reduced. They are on eBay as “Great Bargains at Winfields”. I don’t they if they also have an online shop.

You will struggle to get what you are looking for at a reduced price as they are permanent stock.

Lots of places have sale DM's, even their own website has a clearance section, but it's always seasoned stock. Plain blacks I'm afraid are as rare as hens teeth in a sale.

If you are finding them massively reduced on eBay they are 99% likely to be fakes.

FannyAnne64 · 02/10/2019 08:24

We were hoping to buy from a local independent shop who were a lot cheaper but they only had a few odd sizes. The assistant told us they can no longer get stock from DM as DM are no longer supplying the smaller independent retailers as they can't compete with the big chains turnover etc.

If you know anyone who is a student they might be able to get a discount for you, at DM's or one of their stockists. Sign up to a catalogue that offers a decent discount off your first purchase?

Karwomannghia · 02/10/2019 08:29

I’m sure I got mine for about £15 from a market stall! But I haven’t worn them for nearly 30 years. I can’t believe something so many people wear, including teenagers and of course students, is so expensive! I’ve never spent anywhere near that much on a pair of shoes! It may have to be eBay.

Look for their outlet shops. There's one in Cheshire Oaks and possibly still in Northampton.

iloveredwine · 02/10/2019 08:31

if you live near a shopping outlet they have stores in some. i know gunwarf has it in Portsmouth.

jackparlabane · 02/10/2019 08:32

There's a discount shoe store near Westminster (Stutton Ground Market) and they usually have black Docs, but it's about 85 for shoes and 110 for boots.

Second hand on Ebay can give you bargains but beware of new fakes. Or splash out on the everlasting ones - they replace them when they get beyond repair.

BikeRunSki · 02/10/2019 08:33

The thing is, if your son’s feet have stoped growing, he won’t ever need any more shoes 😊

Karwomannghia · 02/10/2019 08:35

Good point. He seems to be able to destroy shoes quickly though walking to school and back! He’s almost 15

I think they are worth the money. They last forever. I got mine at the doc marten shop when there was a sale on.

JustATrickle · 02/10/2019 08:48

ASOS, Schuh and Dr Martens own online store have KLARNA. Which breaks it into 3 interest free payments over 3 months.

If you ask on mumsnet people usually have a spare student discount for schuh which is 20%off.

Azzizam · 02/10/2019 08:48

My DM brogues are 39 years old and I got them from a charity shop originally! I shudder at how expensive they are now. Think I paid a fiver.

BikeRunSki · 02/10/2019 09:03

If yiu’re In S Yorks, have you tried Wynsors? They used to sell them, but it’s befn15 years or more since I last went in.

ALittleBitAlexis · 02/10/2019 09:11

I got a pair of unworn cherry red 1460s from Depop last week for £55! They regularly sell on eBay for half price or less - often they've only been tried on, no wear and tear.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 02/10/2019 09:27

Schuh often have discounts on! I get mine there.

I would never buy anything branded on ebay. Too risky.

JustATrickle · 02/10/2019 09:35

Try Facebook Market place too.

Brilliant thanks everyone! Yes we’ve got a wynsors, I’ll have a check around. Indestructible is good. I don’t know how he destroys shoes so successfully!

I've bought used DM's on ebay. It's great when someone else has broken them in for you! But unfortunately there are fakes now so won't by brand new from there.

Someone on Amazon is selling a certain style in a colour not current in the range and another where the tartan lining is completely the wrong colour.

Keep an eye out for sales coming up/ just after to xmas if he can wait. I bought pair from la redoute once when they had a random sale on. Saved £50.

tectonicplates · 02/10/2019 09:50

Buy from a private seller on Ebay - the kind who's having a clearout and is selling various odds and ends. It's the high volume Ebay sellers with too-good-to-be-true prices who are more likely to be selling fakes.

Frazzledbutcalm · 02/10/2019 09:51

Dd got some ... after much research we bought them from dr martens website as there are so many ‘good’ fakes around. We googled and managed to find a 15% discount code. Also, they last forever! So the price is worth it imo.

Redshoeblueshoe · 02/10/2019 09:59

I paid about £30 at Cheshire Oaks this year, but I fit in children's size. I'm size 5
