We’ve moved to a town about half an hour from where we used to live. Adult Dd’s Mental health team are on our backs about changing doctors so they can transfer her to the team here. Now moving doctors will be hard enough for her she’s had the same doctor since she was two but coupled with the mental health team also being changed this could really set her back. The team are the same health care trust so I’m assuming funding is the same and she’s not in completely different area. From my understanding of the law I could ask for dd to still be registered with our current doctors? But they can say no which is understandable but I do feel this will really set her back. Any advice would be appreciated thank you in advance.

The MH team budget is likely different. And being at the current GP may not actually change things, for example, where I work, initially the team where the GP is is involved, but if it's then discovered the client lives "out of area" (out off our teams area, even if still within the trust) they are handed over to the local area team. It's much easier when GP and locality team area match from our perspective but it doesn't actually make a difference. Obviously to clients it can make a huge difference. It's an admin issue though. As practitioners we'd love to work with all our clients wherever they move, but we can't. It's shit for your daughter though

Thank you so it’s likely to be impacting on her current mental health team?

User64047 possibly not currently but it will start to. It depends how their budget is set up. We have individual locality budgets based on home address of client. As with all NHS, budgets are tight, so we do have to be quite strict.

Ah I always thought if it was the same trust it wouldn’t affect them but obviously I was wrong. Thanks for explaining.
