Banged Up Abroad

Flicking through the channels I've just come across this on Pick TV. It's basically a pity party for drug smugglers who get caught and put in prison abroad and the terrible things they have to suffer.

Who do they think gives a fuck? Drug smugglers contribute to the death and misery of addicts, they can rot as far as I'm concerned.

Has anyone seen it and what do you think?

I agree with you. They deserve lol they get.

Have they offed that grotty granny yet? Lindsay something....🤔

I don't know about grotty granny - first time I've seen it. I'm shocked any tv station would give air space to whining drug smugglers but I think it's Sky so maybe I shouldn't be so shocked.

I've seen some a few years ago. Sone of the participants are completely innocent, e.g. unscrupulous travel partners stuff drugs in their luggage.

I remember one particularly horrible one where the guys (can't remember what they'd done or not done) were sent to prison and their first night consisted of other inmates banging on their cell door, waving machetes and threatening to get them the next day. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Oh and a guy that for a minor drugs misdemeanour got 99 years in a Thai jail. Out of all proportion to what he'd done.

Yeah I have seen some of them ,the prison conditions in some of the countries are shocking, I was watching an ,episode and somebody had tried to smuggle drugs either out of Australia ,or into Australia they were caught in th an Australian airport anyway and did remark to dh. ,that at least the prison conditions in Australia would be humane ,.

I watched one once where the man was set up by a female friend. He was obviously rather a naive person and he ended up jailed in south america somewhere. It was really sad. He came across as very socially awkward and not at all worldly ifyswim.

It’s also not all about drug smugglers. People end up in prison for lots of reasons. I lived in a country with a pretty dodgy criminal justice system and nothing surprises me anymore (I’ve paid quite a few bribes in my day - not because I did anything criminal, okay, once I parked where I shouldn’t have, but some countries are quite keen to extract money from what they rightly perceive are wealthy foreigners). It’s entertaining enough though.

Not everyone was aware what they were getting involved in. Some were coerced or completely misled by friends or colleagues.

DuesToTheDirt · 01/10/2019 17:27

@pottedshrimps I think that'll be the one I was thinking of when I mentioned innocent people.
