Hi guys, I'm new here! I'm having a gastric band fitted in april. I am not 20 years old and weighing a whopping 23 and half maybe more stone. I'm just asking for some advice really?

Say “goodbye” to eating out again. Get used to vomiting. Completely rethink your attitude to eating in future. It is not the easy way to lose weight. Had mine for 12 years. Eating out is torture. You pay for meals and can only eat a tiny amount - going to friends or family to eat is not easy.

Weight loss is dramatic at first but after a while will stabilise. Watch you don’t constantly snack on little things like biscuits or pieces of cake , chocolate etc etc as you can ingest lots of calories this way which will jeopardise the weight loss. Good luck.

I wouldn't do the band - too many negatives. I've had gastric sleeve and it's marvellous. A few months in and I eat out, I have never been sick and everything is great.

Ive said this before on here but I'm a member of a weight loss surgery Facebook group and the band seems to cause problem after problem. Do another option if you can.

Yes I was thinking of a sleeve actually. Thankyou so much!

I can't recommend it enough. Five stone down in under four months.

Be prepared to stick to the rules, and do everything they tell you to do. Good luck!

I second the Sleeve. I've heard so many negative stories about the band and a lot of people who ended up converting from the band to the sleeve even years down the line. I had the sleeve but actually wish I'd had the bypass as I feel like I had it too easy and would now rather have the risk of dumping to keep me on the straight path. The only advice I have is that it has to be a permanent lifestyle change, if you go back to your old eating habits you will regain weight. I got cocky and my inner pig came out and I regained a stone only 7 months post op. I got my head back into the zone and I've lost my regain and I am losing more but it is still so easy to regain if you don't follow a healthy eating and exercise regime. You can still enjoy life and eat out with friends etc, I just choose from the starter menu and ask for it to come with the main. I think a lot of people assume WLS is the easy way out but it really isn't, it's a tool not a cure. Good luck in whichever procedure you do go for though x
