Diaries Diaries Diaries!!!!!

I love this time of year.
A new blank paper diary is a thing of joy for me. Apps/Google don't cut it for me.
I need advice please.

I need a diary that

  • serves for both home and work
  • allows me to book in clients to appointment slots (about 4/day)
  • keep track of house maintenance/meal planning/kids schools stuff/kids after-school activities etc etc etc.
  • not spiral bound
  • preferably A5 size
  • I love a good pocket and pen loop in a diary

I like Moleskine, but it's probably too minimal for me. Maybe if I got a nice cover??
Posh (brand) diaries- I had one a few years ago. Nice quality paper, but maybe a bit too kitsch to be professional (diary will need to be out in front of clients).
Filofax? I haven't had one before....but I feel the binder rings would annoy me?

Anyone have a favourite that they can link to so I can drool?

All suggestions most gratefully etc etc

Ah Orange thanks for the explanation.
I've spent unnecessary time this afternoon looking at Finsburys. They a bit lovely aren't they.
Ooof, decisions.

Count again, I think that's a lovely diary. But it's not for me. I would feel terrible pressure every week looking at the space demanding that I fill in my goals and dreams and measure my progress toward my goals.

So, I am considering these:

  • Filofax Finsbury ....which seems to be the "private jet" option
  • Hobonichi.... which is more of a business class, commercial airliner one
  • Mark's Tokyo Edge ......the standard class commercial airliner
  • Moleskine ........ taking the train

Any other inspirations out there? Please ?

LOVE how you've categorised them OP Grin

SquitMcJit · 01/10/2019 20:16

I just bought an A5 Mark’s Tokyo Edge storage it, thanks to this thread...

Actually, I’m really grateful, as I wanted one last year but by the time I had decided they had sold out in the UK. I too am super fussy about diary requirements Grin

misstiggiwinkle · 01/10/2019 20:18

Fraser & parsley. Beautiful, practical and like a grown up Moleskin

DuchessDumbarton · 01/10/2019 21:56

Ah here, misstiggi. I had almost got my categories straight- and then you come and throw another option into the mix.

Those are very very lovely.
Can I justify £115 (or €130 wish) on a diary for one year? That wouldn't be the private jet option..... that would be more of a super yacht option, no?

The Finsbury is nice too if you want something with a button close

I also have a Filofax original in a nude colour. They Mint one is very nice.

DuchessDumbarton · 01/10/2019 23:21

Soola you are deeply invested- are you too on the lookout? Grin
You've offered two ends of the spectrum there "mum's diary" vs Smythson's.
Unfortunately, neither appeals.

ReeRi I'm too lazy for an undated diary- it just wouldn't work with my life. Today I booked review appointments for mid-March; I cant imagine scrolling through pages and counting up weeks. I need to be able to open my diary on the (for example) 18th March 2020 and know that it's a Wednesday ergo I will be in my base office.

I have some free time tomorrow and plan to pop in to see the Filofax "in the flesh". If, IF, I bite the bullet I'll report back.

(whispers.....unless I see something else here or in town, that thrills my diary-loving soul).

Yes I can understand that but I don’t mind dating he Paperchase ones. It’s part of the “fun” 🤓

The Filofax time management one is pretty amazing and you can get them much cheaper on amazon or eBay

keepmoving · 01/10/2019 23:37

Similar to moleskin but better colour choice and nicer paper (well I think so).

I also love their notebooks!

DuchessDumbarton · 01/10/2019 23:58

keepmoving Can you believe I had forgotten about Leuchtturm ?
It's on a par with the Moleskine though, I think.

Would it be naughty to order them all from Amazon and send back what I don't want? Ridiculous question- I'm not going to do that.

ReeRi · 02/10/2019 08:46

I had a Leuchtturm and really liked it

Do you carry your diary around with you OP? If you do this would be much more compact that a Filofax burn I have a Filofax and I carry it around - my Filofax heritage is one of my favourite things 😍

DuchessDumbarton · 02/10/2019 09:47

Yes, Ree diary constantly with me.
I buy handbags on the basis of fitting diary, phone, wallet (also large) keys and random kid associated stuff (all in a clear plastic case so that they can find it in my bag without my help).
So, the A4 yoke (in the derogatory Irish sense of that word) has not suited at all this year. T'was a bad decision which I won't make again.

In your estimable opinion, is the Filofax portable in that way?

Page a day, choice of colour, can add pen loop in extras. Academic year though.

I get one every year for my scribbles. Love them.

EscapeTheCastle · 02/10/2019 10:11

Re Pirongs, I see the choice of colours have sold out. They do have the green left.
I buy mine in July and there always a good choice of colours then. Lots of other sizes on that website too to have a look at.

ReeRi · 02/10/2019 12:35

Yes. I have the Filofax A5 original and the Heritage A5 compact. I also tend to hit big bags so I can carry everything around with me. The Heritage is more compact as the name suggests but Filofax do other compact / slimmer Filofaxes if that’s what you want.

DuchessDumbarton · 02/10/2019 20:00

Soooo,
Much gratitude to all of you who have bothered to listen to my exhaustive list of diary requirements.

I dashed into town late this evening to one of our lovely book/stationary stores. I had been in there early last month with the tail end of school book lists, and a lady behind the desk laughed at my request for 2020 diaries.
Lo and behold- they had a wide selection today. Moleskine, BusyB (Madame linked to one upthread) and Filofax as well as the more mundane bog-standard desk diaries.

I succumbed to......(feels like there should be a mini-trumpet thrill here)..... a Filofax A5.

Oh. My. God.
I stupidly love it.
One of my DDs tried to unwrap it, when I got back home, but I quickly smacked that down. Hell no, this is my baby.

I have had an hours fun (am a total nerd) rearranging the pages and setting it up for myself.

Even the 20something guy at the till admired it.

I went completely bananas and bought a nice pen! (Staedtler, nothing too exotic)
Grin Grin Grin Grin

So muchos muchos gracias to all for your advice. Really, I do appreciate it.
