If you had to give your house a name, what would you call it? Something classy, something related to the house or something funny/a pun?

My house was named when it was built in the 30’s along with the whole row. It goes by it’s humber not but I’m going to reinstate the name.

I’m not going to tell you what it is but thankfully it isn’t a pun, the name of a holiday destination or in the god awful mixture of his and hers names!

I live in a small village. There are no numbers in this particular road, only names. We, like many others, make sure we have a big clear name sign that can also be well illuminated at night, because there's no street lights either.

Stuffem Hall or Fork Hall.

CocoLoco87 · 30/09/2019 16:36

Ours has a name and number. We always just use the number. House names aren't really done round here unless they're huge houses so it does look a bit pretentious Grin

The name is the surname of the owners before us. Their surname is quite a popular boys name and was on our shortlist for DS2.

Our (soon to be) house is named after its location. It's very rural and has no number.

rosieposey · 30/09/2019 16:56

We just bought a new build ... except it isn't really. It's a two hundred year old barn which is now converted.

There are no numbers on this road as it's rural so we got to name it ourselves as it wasn't registered with the council or Royal Mail when we moved in a few weeks ago ( massive pain in the arse! ).

Still having trouble with deliveries and people finding us as the postcode takes you way past us and we are set back off the road past the other barns and farmhouse which were also converted.

We named it Foxes Hollow, I adore our new place and it's name.

Ariela a friend of mine used to live at High Paradise. I always used to think that was fabulous and never lost an opportunity to say things like “See you in Paradise at the weekend” Grin

Our house has a name and a number. I just use the number for deliveries, utilities, forms etc. and leave out the name. But everyone in the village knows it by its name and refers to it as such. It’s old and a bit of a landmark. I’ve tried to research the history of the name, but can’t find any clue why the original owners called it that, two hundred and odd years ago. It’s nothing to do with the history or landscape.

Greenkit · 30/09/2019 17:47

I called my house "Shawshank"

CandiceSucksCandy · 30/09/2019 18:23

We call ours Ace House.

labazsisgoingmad · 30/09/2019 20:11

with all the animals we own and foster ours would have to be The Ark!
