Hi all. My DD is 4 and just started reception. She knows all her lower case letters and their sounds and most capital letters. At the moment she loves to copy letters down, is always commenting on the sounds in words eg "tree starts with t!", Loves playing i-spy etc. All great.
She really enjoys going through those phonics sticker workbooks but we have reached a point where she is stuck for progress because she can't blend sounds together. So if she looks at the word 'cat' she can say "c-a-t" and then when I ask her to put the sounds together or ask what the thinks the word might be she is completely blank. I've modelled doing it but makes no difference. It's like she doesn't understand how I got there.
We had an activity in a book the other day where CVC words were written on tree leaves and she was trying to read he word "bus" and was saying things like 'leaves' 'cloud' 'owl' just completely random guesses based on clues from the picture.
Any idea what the next step is? I am totally fine with her not being ready to read yet but she is so keen and I worry that if we don't have a breakthrough soon she will lose interest (maybe that's ok?!)
First child bit clueless! Any advice really welcome 😊
