When do you think is the best time /month to get the flu jab?

As soon as possible!

Greenbutterlfy566 · 29/09/2019 23:03

Do you go to your gp or pharmacy?

October, when it comes out. Flu is most common in January and February but the effectiveness of the vaccine lasts at least 12months (you get one every year due to different prevelent strains rather than the immunity wearing off).

I get mine free through work. Don't waste a gp appointment for it (or your time waiting around!). Lots of pharmacies offer them free for those eligible on the NHS or you can buy it for around £10.

As soon as possible, I had mine on Saturday. If you are not entitled to a free one (your GP should have contacted you if you are), you can get one at a pharmacy.

Mitebiteatnite · 29/09/2019 23:14

As soon as possible. It takes a few weeks to kick in. I had mine earlier this week, although I could have had it very early September if I hadn't been unwell at the time.

TwattingDog · 29/09/2019 23:17

As early as possible. I always pay for mine at the chemist.

I also have it on a Friday afternoon, as I tend to feel like crap for a few days, so this way I can spend the weekend hunkered down if I have to.

DinosApple · 29/09/2019 23:18

I usually get mine in October, I've asked at Tesco already, but our local one doesn't have it yet. (I pay for mine.)

jackparlabane · 29/09/2019 23:19

Soon as possible - it takes a couple weeks to hit full effectiveness and it'll be the same vaccine until next year. My chemist didn't charge me last year as they are now officially delegated to by the GP, which was nice.

It takes a few weeks to take affect?

OP posts:
Fluffsmum · 30/09/2019 09:48

Greenbutterlfy566 yes, two weeks for your body to get up to capacity producing antibodies.

Greenbutterlfy566 · 30/09/2019 10:36

Thanks . Just phoned my clinic and they said it won’t be available until end of October. Maybe November!

Thanks for the reminderSmile I've added asking at my Morries Pharmacy about it to my shopping list when I go on Thursday.Star

woodhill · 30/09/2019 11:10

I'm feeling really unwell today after a flu jab this weekend. Is this normal?

Fluffsmum · 30/09/2019 11:21

woodhill depends on the symptoms. Mild cold/ flu symptoms are normal in some people but most get no side effects.

KnifeAngel · 30/09/2019 11:35

There is a shortage I was told. Our surgery aren't getting them until 12th October.

Greenbutterlfy566 · 30/09/2019 18:43

Does it wear off and then meaning you could get it too early?

OP posts:
IHaveBrilloHair · 30/09/2019 18:45

I'm gonna say Wednesday at 11.40 as that's when I'm getting mine.

Wombleish · 30/09/2019 19:09

I had mine done a week ago at Boots. I get mine free because I have asthma. Last year I didn't even get a letter and only knew about it because my mother told me she'd had hers. I had to ring the surgery and only then did I find out when the vaccination clinics where. There was a massive crush, people were standing practically shoulder to shoulder, so I decided to preempt all that and sort it myself.

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 30/09/2019 19:12

My local chemist has advised me to go in 1st week in November. Then I went to another one and they said exactly the same thing.

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 30/09/2019 19:13

Plus I don’t want it too early incase i do feel a bit unwell after it as i have something fun n at the end of the month so ill wait till i do it then go.

Tobebythesea · 30/09/2019 19:35

I had mine today for free at my local chemist. They told me they had loads of stock.

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/09/2019 19:35

Our local pharmacy starts October 10.
