Best way to remove upper lip hair from the root without causing acne?

I usually shave the upper lip but would much rather do something like waxing, plucking, etc. to get the hair from the root so the hair removal is longer lasting but I always get acne in the place I've pulled the hair out from if it's my upper lip - I can pull hairs from my eyebrow without it causing pimples but not from my upper lip or chin.

Any ideas/solutions that have worked to prevent such acne for you?

I have a similar issue. I have been using a hair removal cream that seems to be doing the trick, and it's cheap!

Long term, I am saving up for a Lumia and hoping for a good deal in the winter sale!

Threading. Much gentler on the skin than waxing.

I used to get spots from threading or waxing. The solution for me was to use a Philips Lumea. I’m now hair free on my top lip and don’t get any of the side effects.

foreverroses · 29/09/2019 22:19

Waxing lasts for ages with me, then cream but that gives me spots, then threading but that gives me spots also.

Will try Lumia sometime but don't have the time at the moment. I’d forget to do it...

Waxing or threading works for me

Bought one of these after seeing a tip on Mumsnet a few years ago and have never looked back. It stings a little at first but you quickly get used to it. No redness and no spots.

I wax but Im always careful to rinse my skin thouroughly with warm then cold water afterwards. The reason you get spots is becaude youre leaving the pores open and any products/ dirt left on your skin gets clogged in there.

Wash well with warm water to get rid of it all then rinse with cold to encourage the pores to close over again.

Hair removal cream.....

Branster · 29/09/2019 22:52

Waxing is quick and as mentioned above, make sure to keep skin clean afterwards and dry. Apply a bit of aloe Vera gel (from a plant) to take away the initial irritation.
Alternatively, electrolysis treatment in a beauty salon.

I have a cheap amazon wax heater with pellets. I have very acne prone skin with cysts and it is the only method which doesn't cause break outs on my upper lip for chin. I make sure everything is very clean both before and after. Splash with cold water to close the pores at the end and minimise touching your face.

Skittlesandbeer · 30/09/2019 04:47

Find a friend who has a philips Lumea ipl machine, and beg them to lend it to you every 2 weeks for a couple of months. It’s a bit expensive to buy one for just a small area, but as long as your hair is darker than your skin the reviews are great!

DesireLight · 30/09/2019 22:57

Thanks everyone. I'm not sure about philips lumea because I have quite dark skin so not sure it'll work as well on me. Plus, it's super expensive and I don't know anyone who has one that I can borrow from.

@SpaceCadet4000 what wax pellet and heater on amazon is it?

Any more tried and tested ideas on how to prevent spots after threading/waxing would be really helpful. The pain aspect doesn't really bother me but it causing acne does.

I get the little spots from waxing exactly like you, OP. Only on my lower face bit not on my eyebrows. I don't get any at all from threading though, have you tried it?

DesireLight · 01/10/2019 21:17

Yeah I have tried threading and it still causes little spots.

If I think I’m getting spots from tweezering or using that epistick thing I whack on a tiny amount of Balanceme congested skin serum which seems to do the trick : indeed for any threatened breakout. Top lip : mixture of tweezers, Lumea and a nifty little electric eyebrow trimmer
