What bloody bug is this now?

Our twins (3) bring every bloody bug known to man home from nursery. They started in January and between January and June it was just a constant merry go round of illness, culminating in hideous chicken pox.

This last week they’ve been off their food, distressed and random high temps but no other obvious symptoms. They generally seem better but they can’t talk so don’t know if they’re in pain anywhere.

Two days ago I woke up with a sore throat which has gradually gotten worse. Today my glands are up, I’ve had high temps, fatigue, nausea and pain all over my body - back pain, stomach pain, hip pain, headache tooth pain, like my whole body is broken. I have no cough or cold.

Never experienced anything like this - what have we got now?! So fed up. I feel ridiculous because surely a sore throat and pain everywhere can’t be the same thing but if not then what is it all about?

I had flu once as a student and it felt different but I guess each strain is different so could be that?

When does the constant illness end, or doesn’t it? Annoyingly I have flu vaccinations scheduled for them in two weeks, which we’ll still get.

Tbh it does sound like flu to me 😐

Think you might be right, it’s getting worse - night nurse and bed for me!

Wondering if it could be glandular fever? My sore throat is unbearable, glands up on both sides now and my temp has been up to 39.5 today. I feel absolutely shocking.

How are you feeling today OP?

I had glandular fever when a student, then finally flu when I was about 40.

I'd say I felt better with the glandular fever than the flu (absolutely wiped out for a week with the flu - everything as bad as everything else, glandular fever was a couple of months of very swollen throat and extreme tiredness, but not as intensely extreme).

So my guess would be flu - but it doesn't really help you - you've just got to somehow get through!

Thanks for asking - I feel awful. Not as bad as I did two days ago as day nurse and ibuprofen are keeping my fever under control now, but still so exhausted and my sore throat just keeps spreading. Can’t drink anything but water as everything burns and my glands are huge. Hoping it passes soon!

I really feel for you. All the same symptoms here.
I've had flu twice, tonsillitis a fair few. But my throat has never ever been so painful. I didnt sleep at all the last two nights. I honestly was terrified I'd choke in my sleep.
I got really ill on Friday. Today is the first food I managed to get down, and keep down. Half a cup of carrot soup. I actually phoned my friend and told her I can eat again. I'm certainly not recovered. But so bloody thankful to be escaping it.
Did you get the really really freaky vivid dreams two? I thought I was putting out cigs on my bed. I don't smoke.
And I definitely had a longer full of stray dogs on Saturday.

MrsTommyBanks · 02/10/2019 14:43

So sorry meant to add hope you are fell soon Flowers

Coldhandscoldheart · 02/10/2019 14:48

I think I’ve had/have something similar and yes I did have some very strange dreams last night! I did a round of showjumping bareback. Much bigger jumps than I had been led to believe.

Do you have tyrozets and difflam spray? They will both help. Also keep on top of your paracetamol.

SinkGirl · 02/10/2019 20:34

So weird you say that as I had an insane dream earlier - woke in a panic as I really thought I’d left DH with the twins while I went to a weird charity auction in a corner shop with “my sister” (actually a TV character) where everyone was wearing two way sequin dresses....

😳

Can I ask, is everyone finding that anything that comes into contact with their throat burns like mad? It’s from the roof of my mouth now down into my throat and the only thing that doesn’t burn is cold water.

I've just recovered from something similar.

Very sore throat, breathless and exhausted after 5-10 minutes activity, aching all over, temperature, ear ache. Some coughing but not much and no blocked nose. I was wheezing though.

Seem to be better now - lasted about 3 days.

Lots of fluid, ibrufon, paracetomol and rest.

Hope you feel better soon OP
