If you were served this for dinner, would you be happy?

We have some friends coming for dinner who are a mix of meat eaters and veggies. I don't know them very well so thought I would do a bit of a picky dinner.

Greek flatbreads, hoummous, halloumi, tomato salad, grilled courgette, garlic chicken and tzatziki.

Does this sound a decent balance for the veggies? I keep umming and ahhing over it.

And I'm stuck for dessert ideas! So what would you fancy for pudding after eating that?

@LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD - yes, cauliflower steaks we call them, bloody lovely! I haven't done them with chilli flakes though, thank you, will try that. I just put herbs , lemon and olive oil. 😜

I agree with what some else said about making more veggie stuff than meat as the meat eaters eat both!

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 28/09/2019 16:46

Sounds lovely

What about brownie ( bbc website best brownie ever recipe is amazing) with double or clotted cream or lemon tart, apple pie for dessert. As dinner is light you can be a bit heavier with the dessert

Cor that sounds nice.
For those who suggested cauliflower, what's the secret? I tried a cauliflower steak thinking I was onto a winner having read about how nice they are and it turned out like....a slice of dried out cauliflower!

Sounds lovely. What time shall I come round? Grin

Sagradafamiliar
When I roast cauliflower break into florets, boll it until nearly tender, dry it off, put in a bowl and toss it in olive oil, cumin seeds and 7 spice, then roast for about 30 mins on 190•c

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 28/09/2019 17:51

If you slice the cauliflower thick (about 1cm) then it shouldn’t go all dry. I cook mine long and low and it goes soft and sweet - very nice with the chilli. I may try curry spices next time!

PawPawNoodle · 28/09/2019 17:51

I'd add some falafel (I love a falafel, hummus and tzatziki wrap) but other than that I'd be pleased. I love a picky dinner.

Dessert - the only thing that comes to mind when I think of Greece is being served complimentary creme caramel, so my vote is for that!

Sagradafamiliar · 28/09/2019 17:58

Thanks guys, I don't know if it was a timing or temperature thing but I'll definitely give it another try. If I get it just right, I'll be having it all the time.

Hope it goes well, OP!

I had to have a couple of goes before I got it right.
It's also nice nice roasted with maple syrup. Go easy on it though!

MinnieAnonyMouse · 29/09/2019 10:46

It went really well thanks! We had flatbread, chicken, loads of halloumi, tzatziki, hoummous, tomato and red onion salad with feta, salted cucumber, roasted peppers and courgette, rosemary roast potatoes. A bit of most things left which is normally a good sign there was enough! And then caramel brownies with Caramel Chew-Chew ice cream. Thanks for all the input, the extra veggies and potatoes were a great shout. Next time... Moroccan!

That sounds lovely - and a lot of work!

MinnieAnonyMouse · 29/09/2019 11:22

Surprisingly not - the salad-y stuff was just chopped up in a bowl before everyone came, tzatziki knocks together in two minutes, flatbreads the same and the rest went in the oven. It's one of the reasons I love stuff like that as you can do 90% in advance then just finishing off

Sounds fabulous for all! Maybe baklava or a fruit fool for dessert?

Oblomov19 · 30/09/2019 07:02

Sounds fabulous!
Glad it went so well.

Cherrysoup · 30/09/2019 07:10

Add felafel and I’m in!
