I'm rubbish at buying flowers. Always end up with roses. Saw these today. What are they?

Lilies

moreismore · 27/09/2019 18:40

Maybe... sorry, big help Grin

Neither lilies nor stocks, but I don't know what they are - gloxinia, maybe, if that's what I mean... something that grows from bulbs, anyway Grin

Maybe try the gardening section? People are brilliant and super-quick with plant id there.

Hefzi · 27/09/2019 19:05

No, gloxinia wasn't what I meant, it turns out Grin Google image search says hyacinth, but I don't think so: something related to hyacinth/bluebell possibly though.

Definitely not gloxinia Grin

Apart from that, where did you get them? They're lovely!

Paperyfish · 27/09/2019 19:07

They’re hyacinths! They smell nice and have thick fleshy stems that ooze Sap when you take them out the vase.

GlubGlubGlub · 27/09/2019 19:09

They are hyacinths.

Bopsterboo · 27/09/2019 19:17

Are they artificial? Think they're supposed to be hyacinths.

Hefzi · 27/09/2019 19:34

Surely it's way too early for hyacinths, though?

Wonkybanana · 27/09/2019 20:00

Wrong shape flowers and way too big to be hyacinths.

Fridakahlofan · 27/09/2019 20:03

They look fake to me. I know a lot about flowers but who knows I may be mistaken. No way you could buy hyacinth at the moment and they are none of the other suggestions either.

Keeoe · 27/09/2019 20:28

Another one for hyacinths here, but not at this time of year. Are they real?

wowfudge · 27/09/2019 20:30

Artificial hyacinths. I used to be a florist.

Byebyefriend · 27/09/2019 20:58

Plastic hyacinth

onedayatatime73 · 28/09/2019 13:19

They were on a table in a cafe. Definitely not plastic. Will go into a garden centre and ask. Thought they were pretty because they were so simple.

Hyacinths would asphyxiate you on a cafe table! No idea why people think really strong scented flowers go with food.

PicsInRed · 28/09/2019 13:34

Looks like anais.

Seeingadistance · 28/09/2019 13:42

Fake hyacinths, I reckon.

PegasusReturns · 28/09/2019 13:44

They do look similar to hyacinths but too big.

Definitely not lillies or stocks.

LewisFan · 28/09/2019 14:40

Well clearly they're flowers 🤣🤣🤣

Shoutymomma · 28/09/2019 14:49

I’m going for alstroemerias, poss White Magic?

wowfudge · 28/09/2019 16:20

They really look fake. Good artificial flowers are made from fabric rather than plastic. Unless they are extremely expensive they are unlikely to be a faithful reproduction of the real thing. The leaves fit for hyacinths. Alstro petals are rounded.
