60th Birthday

My mum turns 60 next month and I have no idea what to buy her.

My grandma died late last year so this is her first birthday without her mum so I want to make it special.

Lots of friends and family are already buying jewellery so I want to avoid that. I would like to get her something she can keep.

Also I don't have a huge budget as we are going away for her birthday the week before.

Any ideas?

It was my mums 60th this year - we paid for her a family birthday weekend (all her children, partners and grandchildren came). We travelled on the Friday and had a fish and chip supper then a birthday day trip (lunch with boat and steam train) and a birthday tea on the Saturday and a ‘posh’ Sunday lunch out. As a actual present to open we got her naice stationery including a travel diary and a few jokes (a sailors hat!) as she also went on a mini cruise with her sister afterwards. We also had a collage of photos printed and framed.

Could you make her a photo album for her?
I was given one for my 60th last year and loved it. Photos new and old of family and friends

I am 60 next year and I don't want "things"...I'd appreciate gig tickets, Space NK vouchers, good gin or cheese .

As a child of the 50s I organised a big 50s/ 60s party for myself
I’d saved up £2 coins for 5 years to do it
Maybe you could do a 50s themed high tea for her in your house for family and or few friends
Needn’t cost a lot
Sandwichs, cakes, scones, jam and cream
Play 50/60s music
I went the whole hog, tea dress, made polka dot bunting, polka dot balloons and so on

You can get some nice china t cups and saucers cake plates in charity shops

I don’t remember what presents I got..but remember who came and their outfits

Got a band two piece band to play etc

For my 61st birthday I was given a walk with alpacas, with my daughter and DH.
Loved it!

Thanks. Some great suggestions. I like the idea of the photo album or collage. The year before she died my grandma turned 90 so we have lots of old photographs that we displayed at her party.
