Can I just boast

That my son (14) has been chosen to work with his local college in a High Achievers Programme because of his science work.

Theyre also already suggesting university and say there will be guidance to apply for Oxford and Cambridge.

I know this is just a letter and in reality it doesn't mean he will be attending those places at all, but to even see that someone has looked at him and has seen that POTENTIAL makes me incredibly proud.

Neither his Father or I attended college and I've always regretted it.
He seems really positive about it and I'm just brimming with excitement and what could lie ahead for him.

We all want our children to do better than us and I certainly wasn't as smart as he is.

I don't really know what I'm trying to say.

I'm just proud if him.

Congratulations! It's great to hear when schools offer guidance.

Some of the threads on here make it sound incredibly difficult and dependent on parental insider knowledge ("months of stress, anxiety and activity. The application process was all-consuming" is a verbatim quote, and that's just the mother); but my part in the process was limited to asking whether he'd remembered to finish the application! (and yes, he had.) If your school's already talking about it, I imagine they're pretty much on the ball and you shouldn't need to worry too much beyond checking that he's following their advice.

Incidentally, there's various extra bits of funding available too, and the accommodation is mostly college-owned, so despite the presence of some ridiculously rich and posh people you may even find that there are fewer worries there than in a less prestigious university.
