Mountain buggy duet or.......??? Double pram help please!

So following on from my thread asking if i need a double buggy I've been researching them and I'm finding there isnt much choice!

MUST HAVES

  • parent facing after the carrycot (dc1 was out of the carrycot at 3m and if the same happens again id want them parent facing a little longer)
  • copes well on rough terrain (our out and about nipper is ideal where we live but anything less struggles)
  • not stupidly wide

Discounted have been the baby jogger elite double and mini gt due to them being massive and the out and about nipper double due to the lack of parent facing after the carrycot

This has left me with the mountain buggy duet.....surely theres more choice?!?!

I had a mountain buggy diet and loved it - once I’d figured out to get the hard wheels and not bother with the tyres which burst at every available opportunity.

Like you I found there was little on the market. Sorry that’s not much help, but you’re not alone.

Skiaddicted · 26/09/2019 15:44

No that is really helpful, I'm glad you liked it! I think we would get the tires slimed like we have the nipper as that seems to help with no punctures too. How do the solid wheels cope on rougher ground?

I Ioved my MB Duet but it didn't do parent facing. Maybe newer models do?

It was great though. Fits through single doorways and on all buses which was the main consideration for me.

MB Duet is ace but not parent facing. Personally I would go for that.

Skiaddicted · 26/09/2019 17:49

The new carrycot plus can be set up as a parent facing seat Smile only lasts a little while but thats all I'm after

I have the bugaboo donkey duo. I don't find it feels massive although some people say it does and has the option of parent and world facing. I've slimed the tyres so I don't get punctures but I've had no issues off roading as we live in the countryside and frequently walk in fields and woods

doodlejump1980 · 26/09/2019 18:15

We loved our mountain buggy duet. The new carrycot+ can convert into parent facing seats. We never had a puncture with our inflated tyres. Was so sad when my twins outgrew it 😭

Skiaddicted · 26/09/2019 18:18

@hunz i have wondered about the bugaboo too, good to know its an option

@doodlejump1980 what age did your twins outgrow it out of interest?

Thanks for the replys

Bugaboo donkey hands down best pushchair ever!

Sewbean · 26/09/2019 18:37

We had the nipper double because we loved the single so much. There was a period of time when I regretted not having parent facing but only a couple of months. And they had each other to interact with.
It was just the best double by a mile for what we wanted, apart from the parent facing issue. A toddler can also sit comfortably on the footplate so it can carry 3 no problem.
But I know it doesn't meet your criteria so sorry for telling you how great it is.

doodlejump1980 · 26/09/2019 18:40

@skiaddicted We’ve only just sold it - they’re 4&1/2. Loved powering around with it! It’s the slimmest double our there. I loved it. The boys loved it. Wah!!

doodlejump1980 · 26/09/2019 18:41

The bugaboo is so much wider plus you have to take the wheels off to get it in most cars. Bit of a faff!

Skiaddicted · 26/09/2019 18:43

@Sewbean ive used it so know its great Smile i think we will get one possibly as a travel pram or once little one is bigger

@doodlejump1980 thats great to hear it lasted so long

I had the MB Duet when it first came out in 2011. It was AMAZING (and the new version looks even better). The carrycot is small but DS was a 75th centile baby and stayed in it until 5 months. It helped that he was an autumn baby so it was snuggly warm for the winter. If he'd been a summer baby we may have found it too small with him a sweaty mess squished up in it Grin.
I liked how narrow it was (the wheelbase was the same as my single MB pram), easy to push even with 2 toddlers, folds relatively small, good raincover.

Skiaddicted · 26/09/2019 20:18

Great to hear more positive reviews, i thinl thats our minds made up Grin

Another vote for mountain buggy duet!
Fits through single doorways
Fits on public transport
Lovely and light to push !

SleepySunflower · 26/09/2019 20:24

I went through many doubles and a Duet was the one that stopped me buying any more.

DappledThings · 26/09/2019 20:35

I'm selling ours, including one carrycot, if you're anywhere near East Kent and want a second hand one in great condition!

Skiaddicted · 27/09/2019 09:53

Thank you for the positive reviews, definitely making me feel more confident in our choice

@DappledThings DH wants to wait another month or so but if you have a V3 for sale still by then we will be interested as he travels that way with work

Have you considered an inline double? The icandy orange is fantastic

Skiaddicted · 27/09/2019 18:13

I wasnt sure if the icandy would cope with rural walks?!

OP posts:
concernedforthefuture · 27/09/2019 23:09

@Skiaddicted I had an iCandy Apple and it didn't handle rural walks anywhere near as well as the MB Duet

Skiaddicted · 28/09/2019 12:57

@concernedforthefuture i thought that would be the case, thank you for confirming my thoughts Smile

Also thinking on the Duet. Has anybody used the cocoons with them and how long did they last if so? I've been to look at the buggy but can't find a store that you can see the cocoons in!

MichB86 · 30/06/2020 15:16

Hi I know this is an old post but do any of you know if the new carry cots being sold with the mountain buggy duet v3 fit on the older duet the v2.5?

Thanks
