I'm about to take delivery of my first electric car.... and the anxiety has set in!

I've read and read about charging etc but the more I read the more confusing it gets. What type of charge point, who the provider is, symbols I've no clue to what they mean!

I'm having a charge point installed at home in the next couple of days.
I estimate that the car will need charging once maybe twice a week.

My anxiety is more the fact that I'm going up north in several days to visit family and freaking out that I'll be stranded with a charge point I can't use or something!

I've downloaded zap map but it doesn't make sense to me!

Someone help me please!

(I know, first world problems, don't flame me)

Don’t worry you will be fine.

First you need to sign up to some of the different charge-point providers . There are lots of these at the moment like there used to be many more petrol station companies. For motorways this is Ecotricity who have points in most service stations. Some Lidl shops give free charging through Pod point but not in every store so you will need to check on ZAP-MAP. Instavolt are brilliant because you don’t have to sign up , you just tap it with a credit card and quite a few have been free when they were first installed.

So plan your route, adjust Zap-Map to show you where the rapid chargers are along your route and also which ones are compatible with the golf (I’m a leaf so I set to Chademo but I think golf are type2 )

Count up how much it costs you compared to your old car and smile - I was putting in £30 a week now it’s £6.

We had a GTE?? Is it the same thing? It just switched to petrol when the 30 miles charge ran out. Never got the full 30 though- more like 18/20

Plan your charge points (and have a back up) and you’ll be fine! EVs are brilliant.

Thanks!
Downloaded zap map/polar and Ecotricity so far.
Looks like my drive up north will be interesting - I usually use A1M but it seems to not suggest that probably due to lack of chargers.

@MissMarks It's fully electric so no fuel back up.
