2 faint positives on pregnancy test but I have Mirena!

Hi everyone bear with me I’m a bit shook up!
I had the Mirena coil put in about 4 months ago after my son was born now 6 months. Recently I got some pregnancy signs and immediately noticed (I’ve been pregnant 4 times, got 3 and an angel baby) so I took a test today and immediately saw a faint blue line. I took another a bit later and another line. I thought if it was a false it wouldn’t show up and I can go back to not worrying lol, so I have two faint positives and a Mirena coil. I have no idea what to do. I’ve attached a picture. It looked like this in the test I only took it out to photograph! In my heart I think I know I’m pregnant but I am so worried about the coil or having potentially 4 kids under 7! (Someone pointed out that the test looks bad but it’s only cause I ripped it out of the case) 😂 if anyone can help with their experiences please let me know! Tia xxx

They do look positive.

Mirena are notorious for moving/getting lost.

I would test with a link dye test in a couple of days and if still positive make app with gp

alicebloomers12 · 25/09/2019 18:13

Yes if I remember rightly first response is the best pink dye I think? I don’t know if I should tell my partner just yet. Feeling a whirlwind of emotions at the mo! Thankyou for your response even just talking to someone on here makes me feel less alone xx

If there's even the slightest chance you think it could be positive, get to the GP and get Mirena removed/found and removed immediately. It can cause some serious complications with development and higher than usual rates of ectopic pregnancies. It is imperative you see a medical professional ASAP.

Thankyou for your reply, I’ve got one booked tomorrow which I had for other reasons so I’ll add this to the list! All seems very so real xx

It’s possible, I got pregnant with the copper coil a couple of weeks ago but had an early miscarriage a week later. They can become dislodged and even fall out (mine did). Agreed re GP appointment, you need to make sure it’s not ectopic.

museumum · 25/09/2019 18:35

Can you feel the Mirena strings? If its still in place there’s a big ectopic risk do I wouldn’t be thinking of this as a potential baby yet but instead something to be investigated urgently for your health.

alicebloomers12 · 25/09/2019 19:36

I’m so sorry to hear that, hope your doing as well as you can. Thank you for your advice I’ve got an appointment tomorrow. Feeling so shocked and out of it. Xx

I haven’t checked but when I get a spare moment I will. Thank you for your advice xx

I was born following the insertion of a mirena coil. Used to be very common, afaik not so much now.

alicebloomers12 · 25/09/2019 22:06

@daisydoooo oh bloody hell really!? Makes me feel a bit better knowing these babies made it to term! I’m doing another test in the morning and I’ll probably do a hundred more like I always do lol. I can’t sleep now I still haven’t told anybody.

Oh no! I'm so sorry OP, those are positive tests.
I had a mirena for years with no issue, got it out, bang an ectopic pregnancy a couple of months later.

Get thee to a doc quick!

alicebloomers12 · 26/09/2019 07:01

@AloneLonelyLoner oh that’s terrible I’m so sorry to hear that, I hope you are as well as you can be now! I’m in massive shock still, this is my third coil both times before it’s been fine apart from the initial bleeding at the beginning but once that’s over it’s the perfect contraception (or so I thought!) I have my appointment today luckily so I can talk things through and get an idea of what lies ahead for me. I don’t know if I should tell my partner just yet. I’m thinking I’ll wait until I’ve seen the doctor and got some clarity so when I inevitably shock the life out of him I have some sort of plan or possible plans to talk through. Just my bloody luck I think!

How did you get on Alice?

NewMe2019 · 26/09/2019 19:25

First response are very good

alicebloomers12 · 27/09/2019 19:00

Hi everyone I went to the doctor and they didn’t actually seem bothered. She said as long as I can feel the strings that’s fine. She said that it’s very unlikely that I’m pregnant but to test again next week and if the lines get darker to then come back and see what the next step is. I told her I’ve done countless tests all with a faint line then done one today and the line was slightly darker but she was still sceptical. It was quite upsetting because I’m still no clearer on what to do and also keep doubting myself. I’ve attached another photo the top one is most recent. Feeling quite low and doubting myself xx

Oh wow. She didn't test herself or take bloods to see what the hormone level is. I'm very surprised. Try and keep yourself distracted if you can at all. 🌹

Moomoo2376 · 29/09/2019 16:40

Yes I am too, I’m trying to think of it as a sign there is nothing to worry about. Despite every test I do having a line of some sort. I’m going to leave it till next week and get a pink dye one and see what that comes back as!

RainMinusBow · 29/09/2019 16:51

Although I didn't have the coil, I did fall pregnant recently on the mini pill. It was a complete shock as you always hear it''s "extremely unlikely" and I was absolutely taking it correctly and on time.

Sadly we lost the pregnancy early on and although it wasn't planned we were devastated. We saw our GP who advised that at my age (almost 39) we shouldn't wait if we were considering a baby as part of our future a) Because it may take longer to fall pg and b) Risks increase after 40 etc... I fell pregnant first month of trying.

RainMinusBow · 29/09/2019 16:54

Is your period late @40Moomoo2376?

RainMinusBow · 29/09/2019 16:56

Sorry-don't know what happened there! I meant that for the OP!

weegiemum · 29/09/2019 17:02

My mirena baby is almost 16 years old! Mine had slipped into my cervix - the midwife could see the end of it and whipped it out. There was a risk it would cause a mc but everything was fine.

It did mean I had 3 kids under 5 for a while, that was fun - I honestly don't remember much of the first 6 months of dd2's life!

They do look positive, hopefully next week the doctor will take it more seriously. If you have and pain in your pelvic region/lower back in the meantime, go to a&e, there's a real risk of an ectopic.

Take care x

CornishCreation · 29/09/2019 17:09

I got pregnant with the marina in and it was ectopic the dr wouldn't do a test as it was only a 1% chance and unlikely to be that as I was bleeding heavily too, so I did one myself and took it to her, but very dangerous and painful so get seen and scanned in case your Fallopian tube ruptures, sorry if this sounds grim but you need to know soon as if it's only tiny an injection (may) be all you need done.

joffreyscoffee · 29/09/2019 21:01

My youngest brother was conceived whilst my mum had a coil in (although not sure which one) - he's in his 20s now so it is definitely possible and it can be a successful pregnancy, however, I think your GP's reaction and advice is horrific. I'd be asking to go back and see someone else. Are there any sexual health clinics near you? The one near me is brilliant, you can just go without an appointment and will he seen.

peachgreen · 29/09/2019 21:08

Did you show her the tests OP? I'm surprised she thinks you could get so many false positives.
