Confused with school nursery policy

Hope I don't sound too stupid. My DD is 2, she will be 3 spring next year so will be entitled to 30 free hours from next September. Is this the year she would be starting preschool? Then the following year (September 2021) she would start reception in school?

My reason for asking is the school I hope to get her in I have just spoken to regarding nursery and they have really confused me. They said she wouldn't start their nursery until she was 4 and school until she was 5. So that I wouldn't need to apply for their nursery this year for next September.
Does this sound correct? Part of me is wondering if the lady I spoke to got confused and was meant to say the academic year they turn 4/5 if that makes sense?

Really confused otherwise as I'm sure the year they are saying DD would start their nursery would be the year for other schools she would start reception.

They start nursery (whether private or attached to a school) the term after they turn 3 eg if she turns 3 in October she should start in January

You are correct. My DD was 3 in June, started pre-school 3 weeks ago and will start reception september 2020. Maybe because it's nursery/pres-school attached to the school it's caused some confusion?

Thank you both I think I will just submit the nursery application. If I'm in anyway wrong I'm sure they will tell me.
