When I thought today couldn’t get any better from a politics pov.

Nancy Pelosi has called a press conference at 5pm eastern time.....is that 11pm here? Word on the street is that Trump will be impeached over what he possibly said to the Ukrainian president about Joe Biden.

Really hope they manage to prove this.

Very interesting. Can you explain what's going on in very simple terma for someone that doesn't completely understand, please?

Spinderellacutituponetime · 24/09/2019 20:47

Jeez. I really hope so but just can’t believe it will really happen....

What happened? Have missed this

frozenonions · 24/09/2019 20:52

Oooooooh!

MarySimpson · 24/09/2019 20:55

Is it some sort of permanent full moon?!

ChicCroissant · 24/09/2019 20:59

Interesting! Impeachment is more of a trial scenario than a guaranteed sacking though (I think!) unfortunately. Crossing many body parts though ....

westcountrychicken · 24/09/2019 21:01

I'm not going to get my hopes up

QueenofLouisiana · 24/09/2019 21:04

I’m hoping it might be a two-for-one offer with Boris.

Mrsjayy · 24/09/2019 21:05

Impeachment can take a while to do I think but hopes of hopes .

Ok, as I understand it....joe Biden is the ex Vice President and looking to stand against Trump next year as the democratic candidate. His son Hunter has links through his business to a Ukraine company.

Trump a while ago froze military aid to Ukraine which was worth millions. Then he rang the president up. It’s thought he may have said the money would be unfrozen if the Ukrainian president promised to kick off some form of Ukrainian investigation into Hunter Biden in an attempt to get some dirt. Trump has been refusing to release a transcript of the phone call.

Thank you for the simple explanation I was trying to make head or tail of a news article and was getting nowhere.

Mrsjayy · 24/09/2019 21:15

And I think it is 9pm here not 11

SleepyKat · 24/09/2019 21:27

Looks like you’re right about it being 9pm....I keep checking cnn for updates.

Thanks for the explanation OP. Following.

SleepyKat · 24/09/2019 21:41

Some people are saying that it’s actually Hunter Biden who is the guilty party....that he was getting paid 50k a month for no actual job on the understanding he would influence his dad.

Pelosi has said that an impeachment inquiry is to be launched.

How far it will get I don’t know. News websites seem to think that while Congress are up for it the final say/trial lies with the Senate who are still largely Republican/pro Trump.

So; to sum up, 24/09/19 - the British PM was told by the Supreme Court, led by a woman, that he acted unlawfully and misled the Queen; an impeachment is begun against the US President by the Speaker of the house, a woman; and a 16 year old young woman with Aspergers and fifteen of her peers launched an international lawsuit against the five biggest polluting countries who have also ratified the climate accord. I think Feminism is having a good day people.

SleepyKat · 24/09/2019 22:35

I think democracy is having a great day.....but yes, great to see so many strong women being a force for change. Gina Miller as well.

Apparently Senate don't get a say about impeaching, they only vote to remove or not as a result. IIRC it is possible to be impeached but not actually removed, and I doubt Republican senate will remove Trump while, for some ungodly reason, he's doing so well for them.

Symptomless · 24/09/2019 22:41

Democrats should stop concentrating on this, it will not happen. Better to concentrate on the next election, or the one after. Trump isn't forever.
