Thanks but no thanks

Feeling a bit deflated went for an interview with a large corporate company a few weeks ago,felt it went well .Got an email to say I had passed the interview but it had over subscribed and had more people that had passed than positions but would definitely keep me on their books for future positions. Has this happened to anyone else with a happy outcome or should I basically accept it's a definite no?Really wanted this job :(

I've been on the other side of this. Very strong field of candidates, one pipped at the post for the job. I fed back that we'd love to get in touch again if anything else came up, and a month or so later it did. When I contacted the candidate again she'd already found another post but said that she thought the feedback was just to make her feel better. It honestly wasn't.
