I’m posting here for traffic but if it needs to go to Legal, Mumsnet, please feel free to move
I split up with my partner approx 3 years and at the time, I remember him saying if I needed to borrow his car I was insured. This person was financially and emotionally abusive to me and tbh, I forgot all about it until I was clearing paperwork 18 weeks ago.
I called the insurance company on a hunch to see if I was still named on any policy and low and behold, I’m on his. They confirmed I’ve been named on a policy for 3 years and so far 5 cars as they work in the car industry so get a new car every 6 months. They even commented on my ‘amazing’ 21 years no claims.
I raised a complaint to have me removed because I didn’t want him to be told I had called up and removed myself. It needed to come from them under their own whistleblowing policy and 18 weeks later it’s still not been addressed. They have said they will now remove me although they are unable to prevent him doing it again but when I mentioned I have done some research, confirmed their own fraud process/policy on their website states any falsified applications will be met with;
- cancelled insurance
- recover of any losses
- fraud prevention measures ie CIFAS markers in place to let other insurers know the issue
The person said he wasn’t clued up with any of that.
They have said he could do it again? Really?? My personal details can be used for his financial gain (lowering his premiums) and the insurance company won’t do anything to protect or prevent this reoccurring.
When you think you have got away from controlling behaviour and yet here it is, being accepted by Esure as each month they collect a direct debit so to hell with protecting a victim of fraud.
Sorry more venting than what can I do as apparently there is nothing I can do.
I have already reported to the insurance fraud bureau- they confirmed they only pass information to the insurance company
I have already raised a complaint to the CEO of Esure - a young lad is working the complaint who admitted he normally just deals with servicing matters and is sorry.
I have already reported to Action Fraud - given just a reference number which we will know nothing comes of...
