8 month old with diarrhoea - when should I worry!?

I posted this earlier in children’s health but it’s quiet over there and now my DP is talking about taking my Dd to the or of hours and it seems an over reaction!

Posted before...
“Hi; my LO has been having much looser than normal poo since Saturday, yesterday and today she’s had explosive episodes - the car seat explosion was grim - and my DP is panicking that I should get her to the doctors.

She’s fine in herself, no temperature and still taking on fluids, just she then explodeds once or twice a day...

She usually takes lactulose to counter act gaviscon so I was thinking of stopping that for a day or two; but not sure if I should see the doctor for that.

Any advice greatly accepted!”

Is she’s having Lactulose I would assume that’s the cause.

If your in doubt though, get her seen by a medical professional hun x

The lactulose has never made her this erm, loose and explosive. I just don’t know how long it’s ok to leave her before I need to think it’s time for the docs.

I’d call GP in morning for advice, as I don’t know about gaviscon or lactulose. What I can say is my son aged approx the same has diarrhoea for a week and after it ended I presumed he had eaten something dodge or maybe caught a bug from absolutely everything going in his mouth!

Could she be teething ?

When my little ones were young and teething they would always get explosive diarrhoea

Whyismycatanasshat · 23/09/2019 21:52

She is teething yes; but has 4 teeth through; it’s her top two descending now.

Thank you everyone.
I know I am a worrier, but for dp to be bothered; that’s what’s got me.

I think I’ll give her another 24 hours then review.

You don’t need to call a doctor for permission to halt the Lactulose temporarily. It’s a common sense thing. Either:

  1. the Lactulose is causing these episodes (in which case you stop for a day or two and see how things go - if her bowels get sluggish again then start it again)
  1. she has a tummy bug and the Lactulose is exacerbating things (in which case you stop for a day or two and see how things go - if her bowels get sluggish again then start it again)

Either way you’ve got to stop giving her any sort of laxative until things return to normal Smile

Ring the NHS help line, 101 is it?

Whyismycatanasshat · 25/09/2019 20:06

Thought we’d finally seen it off; 24 hours with one normal poop... explosive again today.
She cries. I could cry!
