Thomas Cook-Disney Land Paris Booking

Just wondering if anyone can help with this! We have booked Disneyland Paris with Thomas Cook. We aren’t due to go until next August and we have paid the deposit of £353. Now they have collapsed, what will
Happen? I understand all holidays will be cancelled but as far as I am aware the booking is actually with DLP and Thomas Cook just act as an agent? Will we be entitled to just carry on with the booking ( with DLP) or will it get cancelled as we will get our money back? We didn’t have any travel booked with them.

I feel desperately sorry for the staff of Thomas Cook but if anyone can shed any light on this that would be great.

Thanks

The holiday will be cancelled and you will (hopefully) be able to get the deposit refunded.

RemoteControlling · 23/09/2019 08:05

ah even though they’re just an agent we booked the hotel through? Not sure if it’s worth contacting Disney direct? If I get my deposit back I can rebook, there’s loads of us going but everyone else booked separately I we booked with Thomas Cook :(

You will need to submit a claim to the liquidators (once appointed). IF there are sufficient funds to pay unsecured creditors then you might receive money back. This can take a vet long time - at least a year.

In the meantime, if you paid by credit card, then make a claim with them as your card company is jointly and severally liable for any breach of contract under the consumer credit act.

Alternatively, if you paid by debit card, contact your bank as there might be something they're willing to do. From memory, I think it is called "chargeback", but not sure.

Finally check whether Thompson was registered with abta. If so give them a call.

It will be quicker to claim off your travel insurance in reality.

Sirzy · 23/09/2019 08:50

So you have booked a package staying at a Disneyland Paris resort including tickets??

I think you need to contact them because they may honour it. I know p and o have confirmed that cruises with them booked via Thomas cook will go ahead and they will send more details out soon.

Joe2019 · 23/09/2019 08:53

@AJP Taylor many insurances exclude cover where liquidators are appointed. Op will need to check the terms and conditions. A s75 CC claim or CB may often be the best and quickest option.

KurriKawari · 23/09/2019 08:59

Go to the TC website that has comprehensive information
Go to the MSE website that has a full detailed guide

Do that BEFORE you come on mumsnet

RemoteControlling · 23/09/2019 10:47

Ok thank everyone, I am going give DLP a ring now.

@KurriKawari i did do that but there is no information about Disneyland Paris, it is about flights and package holidays. But thank you so much for taking the time to reply

Did you book travel and DLP together?

AlanThePig · 23/09/2019 10:50

Be aware DLP might be utterly snowed under at present as not only TC have gone but a company dedicated to DLP holidays called 'Go West With Mickey' appear to have vanished with about 400k of other peoples money and no bookings for the park.

I suspect Disney are really coming in for it this morning.
Good luck.

GinNotGym19 · 23/09/2019 10:52

How did you pay? You need to contact your bank and put in a claim to get the money back and rebook it.
I don’t think it matters if Thomas cook was just the agent, as the company has gone bust the holiday will be gone unfortunately

Bluntness100 · 23/09/2019 10:53

It will be cancelled and in time you'll get your deposit back.

Disney Land May let you keep the booking but you'll need to pay, it's doubtful any money has been paid to them via Thomas Cook.

Marylou1945 · 23/09/2019 12:21

We have booed Disneyland Paris through Thomas Cook. We have printed the Eurostar tickets so we assume they have been paid for. However we are not sure where we stand with regards to the hotel and park entry. We are due to go early November

Frankfinch · 23/09/2019 13:49

Same as marylou1945 booked through Thomas cook all payed up got train tickets but in the booking it says they will receive tickets 2 weeks before departure so have emailed dlp to see if we are still booked in for end of October

DaisyDreaming · 23/09/2019 14:30

There’s been a scam (or ponzi to be correct) called go West with Mickey with people conned out of hundreds of thousands da of pounds, it was Run weekend (Disney’s busiest weekend) and now TC so laris calls have been put through to America as everyone from these companies are all trying to find out if they have an actual booking so it might be worth waiting a day or two before calling disney to find out info

DaisyDreaming · 23/09/2019 14:30

Magic breaks are safe btw for people worrying

RemoteControlling · 23/09/2019 18:38

I am going to give it a few days for everyone who’s immediately worried to speak to them.

When I went in and booked she brought up the Disneyland Paris website, checked the DLP website then rang through to them to book. If anyone does hear anything can you update the thread. I can rebook and the same deal is on but i can’t without knowing whether I will get my money back for the deposit!

OP posts:
RemoteControlling · 23/09/2019 18:40

Just to confirm we haven’t got travel booked with them, just the room/package tickets.

You could have booked that yourself!

jadeprincess19 · 23/09/2019 19:20

Hey everyone I’ve rang Disneyland today! They told me to ring back in the morning because they don’t know anything yet, they took my book number and said to call back, I’m having hopes because it’s not s Thomas cook holiday! I’ll keep you all updated tomorrow

RemoteControlling · 23/09/2019 20:41

Boob yes but there wasn’t the option to pay instalments direct with DLP, it was only 2 installments which I couldn’t afford. I was literally due to pay my first instalment this month! And Thomas Cook was 10% cheaper (my auntie booked hers through another travel agent, I went with her and they did the same thing and it was the same price I paid). Of course I would have booked it myself if it was the same price/ arrangment!

@jadeprincess19 oh that’s good! I’ll keep my fingers crossed, thanks for updating

@remotecontrolling I’m gutted not due to fly until January, my flights are with easy jet and my ATOL certificate says I would get a refund if Disneyland Paris stopped trading so I’m hoping when I ring them tomorrow they will just take over my booking, I still have £400 left to pay off xxx

RemoteControlling · 24/09/2019 07:44

@jadeprincess19 yeah I bet you are! Fingers crossed they’ll shed some more light on it tomorrow.

I was thinking about the staff last night, I had a package deal with Thomas Cook to Spain last year and we ended up getting delayed on the return by 17 hours Confused the staff (who were all late teens/early 20’s) could not have been more fantastic, especially in the face of some very angry passengers. One Rep, who was from Scotland stayed with us all for most of the 17 hours, came to the airport to eventually see us take off at 4am and then was staying on to welcome the next lot of passengers at 6am! Amazing. I feel so sorry for them all.

Hi
we have also got a Disneyland trip booked to Paris in july 2020.
After speaking to Disneyland paris they are going through all bookings in order of dates of arrival and contacting each person individually.
Disneyland have received our deposit from thomas cook and therefore our booking is with DLP.
We have been told to call them back today to check if they have decided to allow Thomas cook customers to keep bookings or cancel them.
There was also talk of allowing bookings but asking for full payment.
Its all up in the air at the moment.
You can submit a claim to ABTA who will refund you should not keep your DLP booking.
to re book will cost us £5,000 for a the same holiday we paid £2,350 for so im hoping DLP allow us to keep the booking!
gpod luck and keep us imformed

jadeprincess19 · 24/09/2019 10:43

So just got off phone I was on hold for 50 mins as well :( they said if you have a booking between now and the 29th of this month your booking is still valid, they don’t know anything else and to ring back at least Friday, he said I might get an email or hear something in the meantime but if I don’t to ring them back Friday xxxx
