Yes one of these threads.

A book I read when in primary school so very early 90s, though obviously no clue of publication date. Got it from the library several times.

It was about a group of people / families on a space ship travelling to colonise a new planet. Possibly as an emergency as earth had become uninhabitable. They were all allowed to bring 1 book only and the main character (a child, a girl I think) had brought a blank notebook and every one laughed at her.

When they arrived they struggled to cut trees to build houses as they were so hard. The grass was pink. The settlement was a success and basically she wrote it's history in her blank book and everyone was grateful she brought it.

Anyone have ideas?!

I think it's The Green Book by Jill Paton Walsh.

I feel like I've read it

This Place Has No Atmosphere maybe sounds similar but not quite

@pinkysEars I think you've got it! That's amazing, first answer! I've been trying to remember this for literally years. Going to buy a copy now, thank you

This Place Has No Atmosphere was published in 1986, and Paula Danziger had died by 2006. It’s a cute book.

However, I agree it’s not the one OP is looking for.

Ah must have been the edition I saw was 2006.

Any way it is def the green book and further digging reveals it was issued under the title "Shine" for a while, which is the cover I recall. Thanks MN

I'm so pleased I could help. I'm paying it forward, because gavisconismyfriend found one for me on another thread.
